Ravens Win Overtime Thriller in Pennsylvania to Advance to the Next Round of NCAAs

ERIE, Pa. (11/24/24) – The Ravens take the 2024 NCAA Division II Men's Second Round game against Gannon, with a score of 3-2 in overtime. 

Score: Frankin Pierce 3, Gannon 2  (OT)

Records: Franklin Pierce (12-2-5, 4-1-4 NE-10), Gannon (14-4-3, 7-0-3 PSAC)  

Location: McConnell Family Stadium, Erie, Pa. 

Date:Sunday, November 24th, 2024  

HOW IT HAPPENED:  

  • After 20 minutes of no score, the Golden Knights broke through with a goal from Rafa Hyde assisted by Sverre Orten. It was Hyde's 11th goal of the year. Though the Ravens outshot the Golden Knights 9-3 in the first half, they still trailed 1-0. 

  • In the early stages of the second half, James Pool adds to the Golden Knights lead with an assist by Pau Ferrer. With their backs against the wall, the Ravens get on the board from Aaron Sanchez's (A Coruña, Spain) penalty kick a couple of minutes later. With time winding down, Tiago Barriguinha (Alverca, Portugal) hits a game-tying goal to send it to overtime. 

  • With over 6 minutes into overtime, the Ravens had offensive possession, and the game-winning goal was headed in by the Gannon defense, ending it at 3-2.  

 

BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS: 

  • The Ravens outshot the Golden Knights 20-8.  

  • Karl Vernet (Miami, Fla.) gets the win for the Ravens, recording a save.  

  • The Ravens took 8 corner kicks compared to 2 from the Golden Knights. 

UP NEXT FOR THE RAVENS: The Ravens will wait to discover their opponent for the Third Round of the NCAA Tournament as they face the winner of Concord and Charleston (WV) who play at 3 PM. The highest remaining seed will host the game on Sunday, December 1.
