Ravens NE-10 Title Hopes End at New Haven in 1-0 Loss

WEST HAVEN, Conn. (11/13/24) – The hopes of a 4th straight Northeast-10 championship came to a close on Wednesday night, as they fell 1-0 to the New Haven Chargers in the NE-10 semifinal round.  

Score: New Haven 1, Franklin Pierce 0 

Records: Franklin Pierce (11-2-5, 4-1-4 NE-10), New Haven (12-3-3, 5-2-2 NE-10)

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • The 1st half was a scoreless tie and a tight affair, as the Chargers outshot the Ravens 5-3. Karl Vernet (Miami, Fla.) was able to make a critical save on a Chargers penalty kick nearing the end of the half to keep the score at 0-0.

  • It took just five minutes to break that scoreless tie. Mattia Maiello dished a centering pass to Oskar Kvarnback, who slipped it past graduate keeper Vernet and tucked it in the left corner to put the Chargers up 1-0.  

  • The Ravens outshot the Chargers 10-4 in the 2nd half but couldn't beat Chargers keeper Archie Watts as the Chargers advanced to the NE-10 Championship. 

 

BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS: 

  • The Ravens outshot the Chargers 13-9. 

  • Karl Vernet suffered the loss in net for the Ravens, recording 2 saves. 

  • The Ravens took 7 corner kicks compared to 1 from the Chargers. 

  • The Ravens committed 11 fouls compared to 16 from the Chargers.
