Recap by student-staff writer Colin Struckman

MANCHESTER, N.H. (10/08/24) – The streak is over. The No. 6 nationally ranked Franklin Pierce men's soccer team's 63 unbeaten matches streak ended at SNHU on Tuesday night, they were stunned by the Penmen 4-2 in Northeast-10 conference play. Prior to the loss, the Ravens were 57-0-6 in their last 63 matches, with the streak lasting 1,081 days. Their last regular season loss was against Stonehill on Oct. 23 in 2021 where they lost 1-0 in 2OT.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Ravens were forced to play from behind for the 2nd straight game in the first half, the Penmen striking first 18:13 into the contest. Iago Perez opened the scoring for the Penmen by burying a header into the right corner off a beautiful cross lofted into the box from Martin Zapata, giving them the 1-0 lead.

  • It didn't take long for the Ravens to respond, tying the score 1-1 at the 20:29 mark. Sophomore forward Andy Chisholm (Little Compton, R.I.) fired a laser into the left corner to get the Ravens back into the contest.

  • The Penmen closed the first half out strong, re-gaining the lead with just 3:48 left in the half. Martin Fuentes scored off a feed from Alex Pons to put them in front 2-1 heading into the halftime break.

  • The Ravens came out of the gates firing to begin the 2nd half. Sophomore midfielder Tiago Barriguinha (Alverca, Portugal) fired a beautiful corner kick into the box, then freshman defender Jesse Oostendorp (Doetinchem, The Netherlands) flicked into the right corner to tie the score 2-2 at the 47:11 mark.

  • The Penmen provided a surge for the remainder of the 2nd half the Ravens couldn't handle. Alejo Caceres lofted a cross into the box for Phillipp Hermann who headed it just past the diving reach of senior goalkeeper Karl Vernet (Miami, Fla.) for the game-winning goal which put them up 3-2.

  • The Penmen capped off their incredible performance with Dani Gonzalez capitalizing off a pass from Iago Perez to give them the stunning 4-2 victory over the Ravens.
