Men’s Soccer: Ravens Take Down UNH 3-2 Sunday Afternoon

RINDGE, N.H. (09/29/24) – The Franklin Pierce men's soccer team hosted the Chargers of University of New Haven Sunday afternoon. The Ravens defeated the Chargers 3-2.

RECORDS:

  • FPU: 5-0-3 (1-0-2 NE10)
  • UNH: 4-3-1 (0-2-0 NE10)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Chargers would open up the scoring when Deni Illjazi would take advantage of a 1v1 opportunity against the Ravens defenders. The ball would get deflected the wrong direction and be sent past goalkeeper Karl Vernet (Miami, Fla.) who would make an attempt to stop the ball.
  • The Ravens would finally return the scoring when Antonio Lima (Lisbon, Portugal) drove the ball to the end then and set a beautiful cross in the air to find Andy Chisholm (Little Compton, R.I.) who would head the ball into the lower left corner.
  • In the 51st minute, the Ravens would take the lead when Borja Blazquez (Toledo, Spain) found the ball at the top of the 18 and would shoot to the lower left corner to give the Ravens the 2-1 lead.
  • Less than five minutes later, Lima would once again take the ball endline and send it across to Joao Araujo (Madeira, Portugal) this time, who would hammer it into the goal for the 3-1 lead.
  • The Chargers did not give up and put on another goal in the 82nd minute when Luke Fiscella would find Adam Lindstrom at the top of the box.

INSIDE THE LINES:

  • The Ravens outshot the Chargers 18-9.
  • Vernet made three saves with five shots on goal.
  • Franklin Pierce had 12 corner kicks to the Chargers 5.

UP NEXT FOR THE RAVENS: Franklin Pierce takes a little more than a week off before they take on their next opponent on Tuesday, October 8. The Ravens will face Southern New Hampshire on the road at 7 PM.
