Rodriguez, Men's Soccer Dominate Versus Saint Michael's 5-0
RINDGE, N.H. (9/14/2022) ---- The Franklin Pierce men's soccer team picked up their second win in the Northeast-10 Conference, as they handled business as usual against the Saint Michael's College Purple Knights 5-0 on a beautiful, seasonable night at Sodexo Field. Sophomore forward Braudilio Rodrigues (Lisbon, Portugal) led the way for the Ravens, picking up his second hat trick of the season.
With the win, Franklin Pierce moved to 7-0-0 (2-0-0 NE10) on the season with shutouts in five of their last seven contests. With the loss, St. Michael's falls to 0-5-1 (0-1-1 NE10), picking up their first loss against a Northeast-10 conference opponent.
In the first half, the Ravens outshot the Purple Knights 12-0, with Franklin Pierce controlling possession for most of the half. The Purple Knights could not get anything going on offense as Franklin Pierce's defense battered the Purple Knights whenever they tried to approach the offensive zone. In the 11th minute, Rodrigues opened the scoring for the Ravens on a shot that fooled the Purple Knight goalkeeper Liam Barrett. Just 12 minutes later, Rodrigues made it 2-0 Franklin Pierce on a great pass in the box by Miguel Angel Pastor Gutierrez (Valencia, Spain). The Ravens led 2-0 heading into halftime.
In the second half, the Ravens poured on the shots to outshoot the Knights 14-1. The Ravens put the game away in the 57th minute when Marc Lopez (Valencia, Spain) scored his fifth goal of the season to make it 3-0 Franklin Pierce. Lopez has scored four goals in three games. Just seconds later, Rodrigues picked up his seventh goal of the season and the hat-trick on a penalty kick to make it 4-0 Ravens. In the 89th minute, after many chances earlier in the second half, Javier Guiterrez scored his first goal as a member of the Franklin Pierce men's soccer team on a rebound in front of the net to make it 5-0 Franklin Pierce.
The Ravens concluded the contest with a whopping 26-1 shots advantage over the Purple Knights.
Javier Torres (Benalmadena, Spain) got his first start in net tonight, and he picked up the win for the Ravens. Karl Vernet (Miami, Florida) subbed in for Torres in the second half and made one save. Barrett made eight saves in the loss and moved to a 0-3-1 record this season.
Franklin Pierce's return to the field on Saturday, September 17th, where they will face Saint Rose with a 1PM kickoff.
