WALTHAM, Mass. (9/11/22) – Graduate Marc Lopez (Valencia, Spain) notched a pair of goals in the second half for men's soccer as the Ravens remain undefeated following their Northeast-10 opening contest versus Bentley University, besting the Falcons by a final of 3-1 on the road.
The Ravens advance to 6-0-0 with the road victory, as Bentley University sinks to 1-3-2 overall on the season with the loss.
The Ravens opened the scoring with a goal from senior forward Miguel Angel Pastor Gutierrez (Valencia, Spain) at the 13:58 mark of the first half. Following some prolonged offensive pressure from just outside the box, midfielder Jonas Cervera Anchel (Chiva, Spain) collected the ball and placed a center just in front of the far post, finding Gutierrez for the header past the Bentley netminder for the 1-0 lead.
The 1-0 advantage remained until the second half, when Marc Lopez provided some insurance off a solo effort goal from just outside the penalty arc, sending a targeted shot top left corner for the 2-0 lead in the 77th minute. Lopez would later return for more in the 83rd minute, accpeting a feed from junior Rodrigo Vaza (Torres Verdes, Portugal) to find him inside the box, allowing enough time for another shot to the left side to cap the offensive efforts at 3-0.
However, Bentley would not go silently, as they would convert on their only goal of the afternoon off of a free kick with just six seconds left to play, finalizing the score at 3-1.
Raven netminder Kosta Maniatis faced only a single shot in the contest, which resulted in the only Falcons goal on the afternoon following a dominant defensive effort by the team.
Men's soccer begins a two game homestand this coming Wednesday, September 14th where they will take on Saint Michael's College in another NE10 matchup at 6PM.
