GARDEN CITY, N.Y.  (September 17, 2019) – The Franklin Pierce University men's soccer team concluded their non-conference schedule Tuesday evening with a 1-1 tie to Queens (N.Y.) College at Nassau Community College. The draw sends the Ravens to 2-1-1 and the Knights to 2-2-1.

Franklin Pierce outshot the home team 17-8 in the contest and 7-2 in shots on goal. They were doomed by 13 offsides calls including one that wiped the potential game-winning goal off the board. The match was a physical affair with 55 total fouls called and six yellow cards.

Graduate netminder Clay Thomas (Franklin, Tenn.) started in net for the Crimson and Gray and made two saves. Marek Strzelczyk was the keeper for Queens and stopped six shots.

The Ravens scored early when junior defender Carlos Ferrando Felis (Tavernes de la Valldigna) cleaned up a graduate forward Stefan Lohberger (Schoellnach, Germany) rebound to put the Ravens ahead 1-0 just 58 seconds in. Five minutes later, the Knights had an opportunity off a corner kick and Emgi Gousse footed the ball high and out of play.

Pierce looked like they added insurance nine minutes into the second half when Lohberger chipped in a feed from two teammates, but he was offside and the goal was disallowed.

In the 84th minute, Queens had a corner kick. During the corner, a foul was called in the box on the Ravens. Adrian Garcia took the penalty kick and converted the attempt to deadlock the game 1-1 Five minutes passed until the Crimson and Gray had a free-kick opportunity that was knocked out by the Knights. Pierce was awarded a corner, but could not capitalize as the game headed into overtime.

In the first overtime period, FPU put together six shots with only one coming on goal. Queens had no scoring chances. With five minutes to go in the second overtime, the Ravens had a free-kick chance from about the 25-yard mark. The free opportunity was lofted into the box and cleared out of danger. Queens almost win the game, however, Thomas got a hand on the ball preserving the shutout.

The Ravens wrap up their three-game road trip on Saturday when they head to interstate opponent Southern New Hampshire University for a 7:00 p.m. contest.
