RINDGE, N.H. (September 28, 2019) – The score line ultimately stood at just 2-0, but the stat line told a much more lopsided story on Saturday afternoon at Sodexo Field. The Franklin Pierce University men's soccer team piled up advantages of 20-6 in shot attempts, 8-3 in shots on goal and 8-3 in corner kicks, as the Ravens posted a 2-0 win over Saint Rose in what could have easily been a four- or five-goal Northeast-10 Conference affair. Graduate student midfielder Javier García Borrás (Alzira, Spain) scored early for Franklin Pierce, while junior forward Yannik Felber (Vallendar, Germany) provided a second-half insurance tally.

With the win, the Ravens improve to 4-1-1 (2-0-0 NE10), while Saint Rose falls to 5-2-0 (1-1-0 NE10).

Borrás opened the scoring just inside the first quarter-hour, in the 15th minute. Graduate student goalkeeper Clay Thomas (Franklin, Tenn.) would pick up an assist on the play, as he booted a long kick down the right-wing side of the field. The long ball wound up springing Borrás on what amounted to a partial breakaway in the Saint Rose half of the field. Borrás used a seam in the defense to make his way into a shooting lane at the top of the box and tucked a shot low and inside the left post for his first goal of the season.

The game would go without another goal for nearly the next hour, as it was just outside of the final quarter-hour when Felber finally provided the insurance tally for Franklin Pierce. The day's second goal came directly off of a corner kick, which was taken by graduate student forward Javier Gonzalez Carraminana (Madrid, Spain) from the left side. The service came down in front of the right post, at the top of the six-yard box, where it met the head of Felber, who had an easy finish into the right side of the goal for his first goal of the campaign as well.

Thomas (3-1-1) stopped all three shots on his goal to post his first shutout as a Raven. Saint Rose sophomore goalkeeper Ryan Henning (5-2-0) came up with six saves against eight shots and suffered the loss in front of the Saint Rose net.

The Ravens return to the field on Tuesday, Oct. 1, when they travel to Le Moyne for an NE10 contest. Game time is set for 4 p.m. at Ted Grant Field in Syracuse, N.Y.
