Ravens Clinch Postseason Berth for Second Straight Year with 3-1 Senior Night Win
RINDGE, N.H. (October 27, 2017) – Franklin Pierce University men's soccer players Noam Kolakofsky (Liman, Israel) and Yannik Felber (Koblenz, Germany) tallied one goal and one assist apiece as the Ravens notched a Northeast-10 Conference postseason berth with a 3-1 season-ending victory versus Stonehill College Friday evening at Sodexo Field.
With the win, the Ravens snap a four-game losing streak and end the regular season at 7-6-2, 5-6-2 NE10 while the Skyhawks conclude their year at 6-10-2, 3-9-1 NE10.
The Crimson and Grey have reached the NE10 Tournament for the second straight season under the leadership of head coach Roy Fink. Franklin Pierce (17 points) earned the no. 7 seed over Bentley University (5-6-2, 17 points) based on their win over The College of Saint Rose during the regular season (Bentley lost in double-overtime to Saint Rose 1-0 on September 23rd.).
The no. 7 Ravens travel to no. 2 Merrimack College on Tuesday for the NE10 Quarterfinals at 7:00 p.m. Franklin Pierce was shutout 1-0 by the Warriors in North Andover a week and a half ago in their only meeting of the year.
Seniors Brian O'Reilly (Weymouth, Mass.), Hamish Cadigan (Christchurch, New Zealand), Liam Watt (Iverness, Scotland) and Kyle Roach (Hudson, Mass.) were honored in a pregame ceremony for their contributions to the team, athletic department and the Franklin Pierce University community. All seniors received playing time on this special occasion.
The Ravens dominated the game from the start as they outshot the Skyhawks 18-to-10 and recorded more corner kicks (3-to-0) than their counterparts.
Felber scored his fifth goal of the season in the 16th minute as Kolakofsky found his teammate for a give-and-go that landed in the right side of the net, which gave the Ravens the early edge. Stonehill knotted up the score 10 minutes later as Stephen Vercollone cleaned up a missed shot off the post by Adam Branco to make the score one all.
Following the intermission, FPU took the lead for good as freshman Joel Peterson (Christchurch, New Zealand) dished the ball to teammate Niklas Laudahn (Olfen, Germany). Laudahn volleyed the ball off his foot and into the left side of the cage to push the Ravens ahead 2-1. Six minutes passed until Felber and Kolakofsky connected again this time with Kolakofsky scoring the one-on-one chance to ice the game at 3-1.
Jadel Poon-Lewis (Diego Martin, Trinidad and Tobago) stopped three shots in the win as he improved to 7-6-2. Poon-Lewis finished his sophomore year with a personal-best 1.22 goals-against average and four shutout wins. Connor McDonough took the loss as he made seven saves.
