Men’s Ice Hockey Falls at Stonehill, 5-2

Nate Indelicato

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (February 13, 2018) – A 3-0 second-intermission deficit was too much for the Franklin Pierce University men's ice hockey team to erase on the road on Tuesday night. Sophomore forward Jack Hall scored a pair of third-period insurance markers for Stonehill, as the Skyhawks took a 5-2 decision from the visiting Ravens in Northeast-10 Conference play at the Foxboro Sports Center.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 6-17-1 (2-10-1 NE10), while Stonehill concludes its season at 7-16-2 (5-9-1 NE10). Stonehill took two of the three meetings between the two teams in the season series.

The majority of the first period went scoreless, before Stonehill drew first blood with just 40 seconds to play in the frame. Freshman forward Nick Schofield notched his fourth goal of the season, unassisted, at the 19:20 mark.

Stonehill put home two more markers in the second period to stretch the lead out to 3-0. At 2:20, it was the second goal of the campaign for sophomore forward Nicholas Godin, off of assists from junior forward Christopher Page and junior defenseman Connor Collier. Godin would also set up the period's second goal, at 15:59, as he and senior defenseman Brendan White provided the helpers on the fourth goal of the year for sophomore forward Cameron Wright.

Franklin Pierce got on the board 49 seconds into the third period to cut into the lead. Sophomore forward Cameron Shepardson (Albany, N.Y.) tied for the team lead with his 10th goal of the season, on the power play, off an assist from junior defenseman Jack Williams (Suffield, Conn.).

Stonehill would answer with goals from Hall at 5:05 and 7:57 to push the lead back out to 5-1. Hall's fifth of the season -- in just his 10th game of the year -- came on the power play, with junior forward Shamus Maloney picking up the lone assist. Hall's sixth of the year came just 2:52 later, at even strength, off of assist from Page and White.

Franklin Pierce capped the scoring at 11:11 to create the 5-2 final. Junior forward Nate Indelicato (Pembroke, Mass.) found his second goal of the season, while senior forward Jonathan Haun (Buffalo, N.Y.) picked up an assist.

Freshman goaltender Ian Wallace (West Islip, N.Y.) made 37 saves against 42 shots on goal and suffered the loss (1-2-0) in goal for Franklin Pierce. Stonehill junior netminder Kyle Paquette (1-0-0) piled up 46 saves against 48 shots at the other end of the ice to pick up his first collegiate win in just his second career start.

The Ravens return to the ice on Feb. 16-17, when they travel to Saint Michael's to wrap up the season with an NE10 weekend series. Opening faceoff is set for 7:05 p.m. on Friday and 4 p.m. on Saturday at Cairns Arena in South Burlington, Vt.
