Men’s Ice Hockey Unable to Generate Offense in 4-0 Loss at Assumption

Ravens visit Daniel Webster on Wednesday

WORCESTER, Mass. (November 13, 2015) – The Franklin Pierce University men's ice hockey team was outshot, 51-21, on the road on Friday evening, en route to a 4-0 loss to Assumption at Buffone Arena. Sophomore forwards Tommy Mahoney and Cam Laughlin notched a goal and an assist each for Assumption in the Northeast-10 Conference contest.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 0-5-0 (0-2-0 Northeast-10), while Assumption improves to 1-2-0 (1-1-0 Northeast-10).

Assumption got the only goal it would need on Friday at the 12:03 mark of the first period. Junior forward Paul Amarone jammed home his second goal of the season amid a goalmouth scramble, while Laughlin and senior forward Alex Erban picked up the assists.

The Greyhounds doubled the lead to 2-0 in the middle of the second period. Mahoney put home his second goal of the campaign, off of an assist from freshman forward Peter McDonagh at the 10:39 mark.

A pair of insurance markers in the third period created the 4-0 final for Assumption. First, at the 10:37 mark, Mahoney set up the first of the year for junior forward Kevin Murphy. Later, at the 17:48 mark, Laughlin capped the scoring by finishing off a 2-on-1 on the left side after a feed from sophomore defenseman Matt Cowles.

Franklin Pierce sophomore goaltender Tom McGuckin (Clayton, N.J.) piled up 47 saves against 51 shots on goal while taking the loss (0-2-0) in the crease for Franklin Pierce. Junior netminder Nick Commesso (1-0-0) stopped all 21 shots he faced at the other end of the ice to notch his first career shutout for Assumption.

The Ravens return to the ice on Wednesday, Nov. 18, when they travel to Daniel Webster for a non-conference contest. Opening faceoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at Conway Arena in Nashua, N.H.
