RINDGE, N.H. (April 16,
2008) – The Franklin Pierce University men’s
ice hockey team formally concluded the 2007-08 season with the
team’s year-end banquet, held on Monday evening. Head coach
Scott Loiseau announced the team’s 2007-08 award winners, as
well as introduced next season’s captains.
Senior captain Joe Fields (Towamencin, Pa./Green Mountain
Glades) was named the team’s Most Valuable Player
after setting new program single-season records with 15 goals and
31 points in his final season with the team. Fields, who earned
All-Northeast-10 Conference second-team honors for the first time
in 2007-08, finished the regular season second in the conference in
goals and third in points.
After the season had concluded, Fields signed a pro contract with
the Huntsville Havoc of the SPHL, and scored one goal with two
assists in four games. The right winger leaves Franklin Pierce as
the school’s all-time leader in career goals (37), assists
(49) and points (86), as well as holding the school’s
single-season records in all three categories.
Fellow senior captain Pete Wilson (Marshfield,
Mass./Marshfield) was honored as the team’s Best
Defenseman following a career season that saw the blueliner score
eight goals and add 14 assists for 22 points. Wilson’s 22
points ranked second among conference defensemen during the regular
season, while his 19 power-play points (7-12-19) led all NE-10
skaters. He also earned a spot on the All-Conference second team
for the first time as a senior.
In 72 career games, Wilson scored 14 goals and assisted on 23 more
for 37 points. He finishes his career in ninth place all-time at
Franklin Pierce in assists, while also ranking tenth in career
goals and points at the school.

(Rogue River, Ore./Eugene Generals) earned the
team’s Rookie of the Year award after setting a new freshman

Woodring also received conference recognition as well this season,
as he became the first Raven to earn a major postseason honor from
the Northeast-10 when he was honored as the NE-10 Co-Rookie of the
Year.
Freshman Mark Malcolm (Brockton, Mass./Brockton)
was named the recipient of the 2007-08 Coaches Award. Malcolm
quickly worked his way into the team's lineup early in the season,
appearing in 17 games in his first season with the team. He scored
one goal and added an assist for two points as a freshman,
including his first career goal in the NE-10 Tournament against
Stonehill College, and developed into one of the team’s best
penalty killers.
The coaching staff also announced the team’s captains for
the 2008-09 season. The Ravens will be led into action next year by
current juniors Kasper, Kyle Kruse (Sagamore Beach,
Mass./Bourne), Shane Murphy (Tolland, Conn./The
Gunnery School) and Coursen Schneider (Stony
Point, N.Y./Avon Old Farms), as well as sophomore
Rob Perretta (Staten Island, N.Y./Brockville
Tiki's).

wins, tied for the most victories in the program’s six-year
varsity history, and set no fewer than seven program records.
