Franklin Pierce Falls to Plymouth State in Rematch, 7-1

Panthers net five unanswered goals in second period to seal the win

PLYMOUTH, N.H. (Jan. 11, 2003) - The Plymouth State Panthers scored five unanswered tallies in the second period to seal a 7-1 victory over the Franklin Pierce men's ice hockey team this afternoon in non-conference hockey action at the Waterville Valley Ice Arena.

Plymouth State sophomore Kyle Poirier and freshman Dennis Kane led the team with two goals, while sophomore Michal Bodnar totaled a goal and two assists in the win.

Junior Mike Sabini (New Paltz, N.Y./Newburgh Polar Bears) tallied Franklin Pierces' only goal of the evening.

The Panthers jumped out to the early lead with a power play goal from Poirier midway through the first period. The Ravens answered as Sabini knotted the game 1-1 just a minute into the middle period.

The Panthers then went on a scoring spree, registering five unanswered goals in a span of nine minutes to put away the game for good.

Plymouth State freshman Chris Hyson made 16 saves in net for his first career victory. Franklin Pierce freshman, Dennis Millman (Billerica, Mass./Kimball Union), made 16 saves in 37 minutes of work before giving way to junior Andy Tinti (Buffalo, N.Y./SUNY Canton) who made nine saves in 22 minutes.

Franklin Pierce (0-10-1, 0-5-1 ECAC Northeast) returns to the ice on Wednesday, Jan. 15, when it hosts Western New England College in an ECAC Northeast Conference matchup at 8 p.m. Plymouth State (2-4-3, 1-2-2 ECAC Northeast) returns to action on Thursday, Jan. 16, when it travels to Nichols College for a non-conference game at 5 p.m.
