KEENE, N.H. (September 13, 2021) -- Freshman Peter Wurszt (Wilbraham, Mass.) led the team for the second straight day on Monday, as the Franklin Pierce University men's golf team took fifth plate at its home tournament, the FPU Fall Invitational. Wurszt followed up Sunday's 71 with an even-par 72, to total 143 (-1) and finished tied-third in the 75-golfer field. The Ravens welcomed 13 other teams to the 6520-yard, stock-par-72 layout of Keene Country Club.

The Ravens put together a 301 (+13) on the second day of the tournament, to slide back two spots after sitting third at the end of the first round, and finished at 295-301--596 (+20). Franklin Pierce was one shot better than sixth-place Adelphi at 303-294--597 (+21) and two shots behind St. Thomas Aquinas, which used a strong Sunday to jump up seven spots to fourth, at 305-289--594 (+18).

Up front, Southern New Hampshire converted its first round co-lead into a nine-shot victory by posting Monday's lowest team score on the way to a 292-288--580 (+4) finish. The Penmen edged out Post in second at 292-297--589 (+13) and Bentley in third at 300-291--591 (+15).

Despite the second-round backslide, Franklin Pierce still put a pair in the top 20. Behind Wurszt, sophomore Thomas Hickey (Moultonborough, N.H.) backed up his opening 73 with a two-over 74 to finish tied-15^th at 147 (+3). Farther back, a Monday 77 (+5) from junior Michael Sosik (Fiskdale, Mass.) put him tied-26^th at 151 (+7), while an 82 (+10) for sophomore Jake Berkio (Ashburnham, Mass.) and a 78 (+6) for freshman Jake LaMonica (Quincy, Mass.) gave both a two-day total of 159 (+15) as they were two-thirds of a three-way tie for 53^rd.

Wurszt tied for third alongside Goldey-Beacom freshman Camilo Samur, who posted an identical 71-72--143 (-1) line for the weekend. The pair finished two shots in back of the tournament's co-medalists, Adelphi junior Andrew Brunozzi and SNHU senior Matt Conti at 141 (-3). Brunozzi did one better than his Sunday 71 with a Monday 70 (-2), while Conti followed up his Sunday 73 with a 68 (-4) on Monday, which stood as the best single round of the tournament.

Keene Country Club played fairly even over the course of the two-day event, with Monday's 77.28-shot scoring average checking in just over half-a-shot better than Sunday's 77.88.

The Ravens are back at it next week on the other side of New Hampshire, when they travel to the Penmen Fall Invitational, hosted by SNHU. The participating teams will play 36 holes on Monday, Sept. 20, and follow up with 18 more on Tuesday, Sept. 21, at Derryfield Country Club in Manchester, N.H.
