Pierce Men Earn Fourth Tournament Championship of the Year, Await NCAA Fate
CONCORD, N.H. (April 19, 2019) – The no. 1 regionally-ranked Franklin Pierce University men's golf program added another team championship to their already successful season during the rain-shortened Penmen Invitational hosted by Northeast-10 Conference opponent Southern New Hampshire University at the Beaver Meadow Golf Course.
The Ravens combined to shoot a one over par 289 which was the lowest score of the first round. They nearly held off the host Penmen and Saint Thomas Aquinas College (290, +1) for the top slot as their counterparts brought home second and third place. The win was the fourth of the regular season for FPU and second of the spring schedule. The Ravens will wait to see if they earned a third consecutive bid to the NCAA Division II Atlantic/East Regional during the selection show next Friday, April 26th at 6:00 p.m. on NCAA.com.
Junior Sam Myers (Colchester, Vt.) tied with four other golfers for medalist honors firing a season-low 70 (-2). Reigning NE10 Golfer of the Week Nathan Patterson (Conway, Mass.) was the only other Raven within the top-10 tying for sixth at one under par 71 (-1).
Competing from the no. 4 spot, Liam Donohue (Vernon, Conn.) produced a 73 (+1) showing good enough for a share of 13th place. Teammate Keeton Foster (Spofford, N.H.) putted home a 75 (+3) while Dylan Plis (Camillus, N.Y.) rounded out the Pierce scores at 79 (+7).
