B.J. Powers finishes sixth in individual standings with a two-over-par 74

SUTTON, Mass. (September 7, 2010) - The Franklin Pierce University golf team carded a 319 (+31) to finish in ninth place at the Assumption Shootout on Tuesday at the Blackstone National Golf Club in Sutton, Mass. It was the first tournament for the team during its 2010 fall season.

Junior co-captain B.J. Powers (Southbury, Conn.) took team medalist honors during the afternoon as he shot a two-over-par 74 to finish tied for sixth in the individual standings.

Junior Matt Lennon (Bow, N.H.) was next on the team with the lowest score as he carded an 80 (+8). Justin Haapala (Danielson, Conn.), a senior, followed with a +10, 82, while junior co-captain Brian Fleckles (Sandwich, Mass.) shot an 83 (+11). Sophomore Ian Landry (Loudon, N.H.) rounded out the Ravens golfers with an 85 (+13).

Holy Cross' WHITE team won the tournament by shooting a 294 (+6), while Bentley came in second at 302 (+14).

Franklin Pierce returns to action on Sept. 16 when the Ravens compete in the Saint Rose Shootout in Altamont, N.Y. The event will be held at the Orchard Creek Golf Course and will begin at 10 a.m.
