Golf Sits Fourth at SNHU Penmen Invite Following First Round

Ravens ahead of Division I program Manhattan following first round
LITCHFIELD, N.H. (October 11, 2009) – The
Franklin Pierce University golf team fired a 35-over, 319 on Sunday
afternoon and sits in fourth place out of six teams following the
first round of the 2009 SNHU Penmen Invitational. The tournament is
being held at the Passaconaway Country Club in Litchfield, N.H.
Southern New Hampshire leads the field following the first round as
it fired a +12, 296 on Sunday. UMass-Lowell sits in second at +27
(311), while Holy Cross is third with a score of 313 (+29). The
Ravens are ahead of fifth-place Assumption (+36, 320) and
sixth-place Manhattan College (322, +38). Holy Cross and Manhattan
are both Division I programs.
A pair of Raven golfers is tied for seventh place in the individual
standings following round one, as both Ian Landry
and Justin Haapala fired a five-over, 76 to set
the pace for Franklin Pierce on the afternoon.
Peter Panopoulos is tied for 20th at 11-over (82),
while Brian Fleckles and William
Powers follow in 25th and 26th place, respectively.
Fleckles shot an 85 (+14), while Powers carded an 86 (+15) in the
first round.
The Invitational will conclude on Monday with the final round. For
