Ravens' Comeback Falls Short Against SNHU, 84-66

MANCHESTER, N.H. (12/7/24) – Despite a valiant effort that saw the Franklin Pierce University men's basketball team battle back from an early deficit, the Ravens were unable to overcome Southern New Hampshire University, falling 84-66 in NE10 action on Saturday afternoon at the Stan Spirou Field House. Demariontay Hall and Donte Pope led the way for Franklin Pierce with strong offensive performances, but SNHU's balanced attack and clutch second-half play sealed the Ravens' ninth loss of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED:  

  • The game started with Southern New Hampshire drawing first blood on a layup by Derrick Grant, but Franklin Pierce quickly responded with a layup from Demariontay Hall, tying the score at 2-2. After a missed free throw, Franklin Pierce surged ahead thanks to Ja'Keese Kemp's three-pointer and Hall's consistent presence inside, taking a 12-5 lead by the 16:36 mark. 

  • Southern New Hampshire's Jhamyl Fricas kept them in the game with timely three-point shooting, while Paul Greene and Noah Harris contributed key baskets to close the gap. Franklin Pierce's Hall was dominant in the paint, scoring multiple layups, while Kemp added another three-pointer to his tally.  

  • Southern New Hampshire maintained their edge with contributions from Paul Greene, who scored from the free throw line and grabbed key rebounds. Meanwhile, Franklin Pierce's Hall and Pope continued to battle, with Hall scoring on a layup and Pope assisting, cutting the lead to 42-50. However, Southern New Hampshire extended the gap with a layup from Ray Daniels and a strong defensive showing, including a block from Daniels. The Ravens fought back with Ja'Keese Kemp's three-pointer, assisted by Saeer Miller, and free throws that narrowed the score to 47-54. 

  • Franklin Pierce showed resilience with a three-pointer from Miller, assisted by Michael Myrie, and a layup by Myrie that brought them within one point at 53-54. Southern New Hampshire regained control with Paul Greene's layup, assisted by Choate, and Derrick Grant's free throws. Despite Franklin Pierce's efforts, including a three-pointer from Pope and defensive rebounds by Trevon Thomas and Wague, Southern New Hampshire maintained their lead with consistent scoring, highlighted by Kurtis Henderson's layup. The teams traded turnovers and missed opportunities, keeping the scoreline close. Southern New Hampshire held a slim lead as both teams pushed hard in a competitive and physical second half. 

BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS 

  • Donte Pope led the Ravens with 14 points, shooting 6-for-13 from the field while adding 4 assists and 2 rebounds. 

  • Demariontay Hall contributed 12 points and 5 rebounds, shooting an efficient 5-for-7 from the floor. 

  • The Ravens shot 38.9% from beyond the arc, with Ja'Keese Kemp and Saeer Miller each sinking key three-pointers to keep the game close.

The Franklin Pierce men's basketball team will take a day off and return to action on Monday when they face Mercy in non-conference action Monday (12/9). Tip-off is set for 7 PM.
