Men's Basketball: Ravens' Season Comes to a Close After Loss in First Round of NE10 Playoffs

MANCHESTER, N.H (3/1/2024) – The Franklin Pierce University men's basketball season came to a close Friday night during the first round of the Northeast-10 playoffs as the Ravens fell 105-76 to the Penmen of Southern New Hampshire University.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• In the first half, both teams made eight three-pointers. The Ravens struggled with 11 turnovers. The Penmen finished the half on a 14-6 run and led by double digits 51-36 at halftime. 
• Southern New Hampshire had 26 bench points and 24 rebounds in the second half. The Penmen also shot 63% from the field and finished the game on a 21-5 run to secure the 105-76 victory to advance to the second round of the NE-10 Playoffs. 
• For Franklin Pierce, junior guard Dwayne Robinson O'Hagen (Woonsocket, RI) played 28 minutes off the bench, leading the team with 19 points. He shot 7 for 13 from the field and was 4 for 8 from behind the arc. Junior forward Ja'Keese Kemp (Lakeland, FL) played 29 minutes off the bench and finished the night with 17 points. He shot 3 for 7 from the field and was 10 for 11 from the free-throw line. Sophomore guard Pierce Prendergast (Bayport, NY) and sophomore forward Ugo Nwachukwu (Imo State, Nigeria) both had 11 points. 
• The Penmen had two players score 20+ points. Graduate guard Matt Becht led all scorers with 25 points and shot 6 for 11 from the field. He also was 6 for 10 from behind the arc and 7 for 8 from the charity stripe. Senior guard Preston Santos finished the night with a double-double with 23 points and ten rebounds. He shot 10 for 13 from the field. Junior forward Jordan Brathwaite also had a double-double with 14 points and ten rebounds. He shot 6 for 8 from the field. 

BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS:
• Franklin Pierce shot 37% from the field (23 for 63). SHNU shot 52% from the field (33 for 63)
• Franklin Pierce shot 38% from behind the arc (12 for 32). SHNU shot 47% from behind the arc (14 for 30).
• Franklin Pierce shot 82% from the free throw line (18 for 22). SHNU shot 86% from the free-throw line (25 for 29).
• Southern New Hampshire had 43 rebounds, 26 bench points, 38 points in the paint, 24 points off turnovers, and had the lead for 89% of the game. They also had 15 second chance points. 
• The Ravens had 22 points in the paint and 16 fastbreak points.
