Men's Basketball: Ravens Drop Final Regular Season Game to New Haven, 73-68

WEST HAVEN, CT (2/27/24) - The Franklin Pierce Men's Basketball dropped their last regular-season game in overtime to the New Haven Chargers 73-68 on Tuesday.  

Score: Franklin Pierce 68, New Haven 73. 
Records: Franklin Pierce 4-24 (2-20 NE10), New Haven 10-18 (7-15 NE10) 
Location: Charger Gymnasium, West Haven, CT 
Date: February 27th, 2024 

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • Both sides started the first half hot, being knotted at 10-10 halfway through the 1st. Then the Ravens went on an 11-2 run to create a 21-12 lead. Sophomore forward Ugo Nwachukwu (Imo State Nigeria) scored 7 points during the run. The Chargers mounted a comeback, but the Ravens would lead at the half 32-31. 
  • The Second half was also tight, as both teams traded leads. Sophomore guard Pierce Prendergast (Bayport, NY) scored 7 points in the half, playing a key role in keeping the Ravens in the game. New Haven controlled the half better than the Ravens, having the lead in the final seconds. That was until Junior Forward Ja'Keese Kemp (Lakeland, FL) made the game-tying shot with 2 seconds left to send the game into overtime.  
  • Overtime started back-and-forth until Chargers forward Sean Braithwaite made a crucial three-pointer that sealed the victory for New Haven.  

BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS: 

  • Sophomore forward Ugo Nwachukwu (Imo State Nigeria) led both teams in scoring, having 26 total points by the end of the game. 
  • Both sides shooting percentages were even. Both shot roughly 41% from the field. The Ravens had a slight edge in 3-point percentage shooting 27% compared to the Chargers' 25%. 
  • The Ravens had 15 turnovers in the game, however, compared to the Chargers' 11.   

UP NEXT FOR THE RAVENS:

  • The Ravens will travel on the road to face off against their in-state rival, Southern New Hampshire in the first round of the NE10 Championship tournament. The game is Friday, March 1st at the Stan Spirou Field House in Manchester, NH. Tipoff is at 7:00 pm.
