WEST HAVEN, Conn. (February 1, 2020) – Four Franklin Pierce University men's basketball players scored in double-digits including Falu Seck (Washington, D.C.) in a 78-73 setback to Northeast-10 Conference opponent the University of New Haven Saturday afternoon at the Charger Gym. With the victory, the Chargers move to 10-9, 8-5 NE10 while the Ravens skid to 12-8, 7-6 NE10.

Seck paced the Ravens offensive attack with a team-best 17 points off 7-of-12 (58.3%) shooting, three boards, and one steal. Fellow starter Isaiah Moore (Temple Hills, Md.) was an efficient 7-of-10 (70) for 15 markers, three caroms, and two dimes. Maxwell Zegarowski (South Hamilton, Mass.) came off the pine to score 15 points (5-of-8 FG, 4-of-5 3PT) and Doyin Fadojutimi (Temple Hills, Md.) rounded out the showings with 10 markers.

New Haven had a trio of 20+ point scorers. Forward Kessly Felizor double-doubled with a game-high 21 points and 13 boards – six offensive. Elijah Bailey totaled 21 points of his own and Derrick Rowland had 20 tallies and five caroms.

Pierce converted shots at a higher percentage (55.4%-to-48.2%), but New haven quadrupled the number of free throw attempts FPU had (20-to-5) and they scored 15 second chance markers compared to the Ravens zero.

Fadojutimi began the game with a reverse and up and under layup. Davontrey Thomas responded a possession later by burying a catch and shoot three-ball from the right-wing. Jameson Pierrelus (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) put Pierce back ahead 4-3 touching home a one-handed layup from the restricted area. The teams swapped buckets until Moore pushed the pace and Fadojutimi found Moore at the top of the point for the trifecta increasing the margin to 9-5. Bailey knocked down a three-ball from the left wing to come within one point five and a half minutes in. Bailey then spun in the post for a deuce giving the hosts their first lead at 10-9. Rowland added a bucket and two Bailey freebies expanded their binge to 8-0 upping the score to 14-9.

Sam van Oostrum (Sheffield, England) fed Zegarowski who was left open for three and Seck connected on a step-back jumper in the face of Bailey to deadlock the match 14-14. Zegarowski capped off the stretch of seven straight with a fast break two moving the Ravens back into the lead 16-14 at the 9:22 mark. New Haven upped their margin to a high of three over the final half of the opening stanza, but the Ravens rallied to tie the game at the intermission.

The Ravens started the second half with seven straight points capped off by a Seck fast break triple to give them their largest advantage of the game 35-28 1:08 into the new stanza. New Haven matched the seven in a row with seven consecutive of their own to deadlock the score 35-35 at the 16:45 mark. Four minutes passed when Sean Bresnan (Yonkers, N.Y.) put his squad up two possessions, 49-45. A 15-6 Charger run changed the course of the game and the margin to five points in their favor at 60-55. A Seck three with 5:32 left pulled Pierce within one, 64-63, however, six straight moved New Haven ahead by seven, 70-63 as they hung on for the victory.

The Ravens are back in action on Tuesday, February, 4th with tip-off slated for 7:30 p.m. against Southern New Hampshire University in Rindge.
