RINDGE, N.H. (December 14, 2019) – Seven Franklin Pierce University men's basketball players recorded double-digit points led by freshman forward Matt Hofrenning's (Minneapolis, Minn.) career-high 15 points as the Ravens smoked non-conference opponent Cheyney University 132-62 Saturday afternoon in The Fieldhouse. The win, the second in a row for FPU improves them to 5-3 overall while the Wolves stumble to 1-12 in the defeat.

FPU produced their highest point total (132) since the 1981-82 campaign when they put up 138 during a 138-85 victory against Lyndon State. Hofrenning played 15 minutes off the bench and paced Pierce with the 15 markers off 6-of-8 (75%) shooting to go along with five rebounds. Starting guard Falu Seck (Washington, D.C.) carried the Raven starters with 14 markers off 4-of-8 (50%) shooting to go along with five caroms, two assists, and one steal. Fellow starters Isaiah Moore (Temple Hills, Md.) and Doyin Fadojutimi (Temple Hills, Md.) had 13 points each.

Sophomore forward Maxwell Zegarowski (South Hamilton, Mass.) turned in a 14 point performance going 5-of-7 (71.4%) from the hardwood with 4-of-6 (66.7%) efficiency from downtown. His four triples were a team-best. He also corralled six rebounds. Sophomore forward Donnavan Bonilla (Port Saint Lucie, Fla.) chipped in 13 points of his own off 5-of-7 (71.4%) shooting while classmate, Brandon Kolek (Cumberland, R.I.) rounded out the double-digit point performances with 12.

Freshman forward Derrick Obanor (Hyde Park, Mass.) had eight markers while Lewis Cramer (Seattle, Wash.) led the game in rebounding with seven caroms. Junior guard Sam van Oostrum (Sheffield, England) was two points shy of a double-double as he had eight points, a personal-best, and contest-high 10 assists and five steals as well.

For the Wolves, Jalen Branch sank a match-high 21 points to go with seven rebounds and five three-point conversions. Devon Adams was the only other Cheyney player in double-figures with 12 points of his own.

The Ravens fast break was a key to their success as they had 52 fast break points to their opponents four. They scored 39 points off the 24 Cheyney miscues and knocked down a season-high 56.8% of their shots, 21 three-pointers, and 27 free throws. They also produced a year-best 16 thefts and had a season high-watermark 32 assists on their 42 field-goal conversions.

The Ravens began the match on a 9-2 spurt when Fadojutimi drove the lane and converted a layup off a freshman forward Sean Bresnan (Yonkers, N.Y.) pass. An Adams bucket brought the Cheyney deficit to two possessions, 9-4 as they would be the closest they would come the rest of the way. A 17-1 Raven run ended when Rich Dorleh made a layup at the 10:51 mark to make it a 26-7 contest. Pierce's first-half advantage grew to a period high 35 points,  52-17 as good perimeter ball movement led to a Kolek wing three-pointer. A Hanif Taylor three at the buzzer brought the margin down to 57-29.

In the second half, Pierce scored 75 of their 132 points. Hofrenning scored all 15 of his markers in that stanza while Bonilla scored 11 of his 13. Two Cramer freebies with 23 seconds left put the Raven edge to 70, their biggest of the showdown.

FPU remains at home for their final time this calendar year when they welcome Roberts Wesleyan College (2-8, 0-2 ECC) to the Fieldhouse Wednesday, December 18th at 2:00 p.m.
