This Franklin Pierce University men's basketball recap is presented by Belletetes

RINDGE, N.H. (January 30, 2019) – Franklin Pierce University men's basketball junior forward Jameson Pierrelus (Martin County, Fla.) led all Ravens with a career-high 15 points during an 81-70 victory against Northeast-10 Conference foe the University of New Haven on Blizzard Night in The Fieldhouse. With the win, the Crimson and Grey even up their record at 10-10 and move to 6-7 NE10 while the Chargers drop to 13-6, 8-5 NE10.

The win was number 350 of head coach David Chadbourne's 23-year career at Franklin Pierce. He began as the women's basketball head coach in 1996-97 and went 63-24 before transitioning over to the men's side in 1999-00. In his 20 years of leadership of the men's program, he's amassed a 287-269 mark and needs only 13 more victories for 300.

Pierrelus came off the bench and played 17 minutes. He was 6-of-9 (66.7%) from the floor, 3-of-5 (60%) from beyond the arc, grabbed two rebounds and handed out two assists. Team captain Doyin Fadojutimi (Temple Hills, Md.) and freshman Isaiah Moore (Temple Hills, Md.) joined their teammate in double-figures with 12 and 10 points respectively.

Teammates Lolami Lola-Charles (Aberdeen, Md.) and Falu Seck (Washington, D.C.) chipped in nine points apiece while sophomore guard Sam van Oostrum (Sheffield, England) filled the box score with six points, a game-best five assists, four rebounds, and a career-high four steals.

All five of New Haven's starters scored double-digit points while three of their players played 37 minutes of the game. Junior guard Elijah Bailey tallied a game-high 16 points while Roy Kane Jr. was two boards shy of a double-double (12 points, eight rebounds).

FPU outshot and outrebounded their opponent and also scored 19 points off the 13 New Haven miscues. The Raven deep bench provided 41 points off the pine while the Charger three-man bench only netted four markers.

The Chargers came out of the gate firing going on an 8-2 mini-run three minutes in the game to lead by six. The Ravens quickly came within one point, 8-7 following a Pierrelus up and under layup and a Moore left wing open three-ball off a Pierrelus post feed. Bailey quickly reestablished the two-possession game for New Haven, 15-9, but Pierce roared back with 14 consecutive points via three-straight three-pointers which included a Pierrelus attempt to give the Ravens the lead for good. The spurt was capped off by a freshman forward Connor Cullen's (Ankeny, Iowa) right side euro step slash to lead 22-15.

New Haven stopped the Raven binge when Najee Larcher went to the rack for the potential old fashioned three-point play, but he missed the freebie. Kessly Felizor brought it down to a one-possession game, 22-20 by draining a trey with 8:40 to go until the break. FPU countered with an 8-2 run of their own when Moore ended it when he knocked down a right-wing three following solid perimeter ball movement. The half of runs continued as New Haven matched with another 8-2 spurt to once again make it a two-point margin 32-30. The Ravens ended the half by almost doubling up the Chargers points scoring 11 to their six to lead 43-36 at the midway point.

Jeremy Arthur (Westbury, N.Y.) began the second stanza by lofting an alley-oop attempt to Fadojutimi who laid the ball in softly to increase the Raven edge to nine, 45-36 just six ticks in. Moore picked off an inbounds pass by Bailey and floated home a shot to move the Ravens ahead by double-figures for the first time, 51-40. After a Pierrelus trifecta, New Haven notched seven straight points to come within four, 59-55 with 11:47 left to play. That would be the closest the guests would come in the second half as van Oostrum tipped home a missed three-ball on the next Raven offensive series. A Derrick Rowland three-pointer made the deficit five 65-60 with 9:48 remaining. Over the next four minutes, the Ravens defensive unit held the Chargers scoreless as a game-clinching 8-0 run ensued. It ended when van Oostrum stripped the ball away from Rowland and he outlet passed the ball to classmate Sean Fasoyiro (Houston, Texas) who electrified the crowd with a two-handed dunk that gave the Ravens their biggest lead of the game 73-60.

The Ravens remain home on Saturday as they wrap up their non-division conference slate against American International College at 3:30 p.m.
