SPARKILL, N.Y. (10/12/2024) - An offense which has struggled at times in recent weeks came to life for the Franklin Pierce University field hockey team on Saturday afternoon. Down 1-0 at halftime, the Ravens got goals from Caity Hazley and Cecelia Keller to go ahead 2-1. It would not be quite enough for the Ravens, as the home team notched two fourth quarter goals to earn the 3-2 victory in the Northeast-10 Conference Contest.
RECORDS:
- FPU: 1-11 (1-6 NE10)
- STAC: 2-10 (1-6 NE10)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- STAC broke through just barely at the end of the first quarter when Nicola Van Vuuren found Madelief Heijmans for the 1-0 lead. The score would remain until the second half.
- In the third quarter, Lily Zavras (Worcester, Mass.) would find senior Caity Hazley (Kingston, Mass.) in the 38th minute to even the score at 1-1.
- Early into the fourth, the Ravens would take the lead. Rebecca Phillips (West Amwell, N.J.) found Celelia Keller (Biddeford, Maine) for the 2-1 lead.
- Just minutes later, the Spartans would respond. Van Vuuren would earn her second point of the night but this time as the goalscorer to even the score at 2-2.
- With only seven minutes to go in the game, Heijmans would find the ball at her stick and landed a shot past Noorlag for the 3-2 lead.
INSIDE THE LINES:
- Goalkeeper Zoe Noorlag (Amersfoort, Netherlands) would make eight saves on 11 shots faced.
- The Spartans would outshoot the Ravens 18-7.
