Field Hockey: Shutout at New Haven, 5-0

MANCHESTER, NH (10/1/2024) - The Franklin Pierce field hockey team started the month of October, falling short to the Saint Anselm Hawks 5-0 on Tuesday. 

 

RECORDS:

  • Franklin Pierce 1-8 (1-3 NE10)
  • Saint Anselm 6-3 (3-1 NE10) 

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • The first quarter was scoreless between both teams; however, the Hawks came out on fire, making 12 shots in the quarter and holding the Ravens to 0. 

  • The second quarter is where the Hawks found the back of the net. In the final four minutes of the first half, Millie Forster found Ava Rayfield who opened the scoring. Shortly after that, Leila Haertal scored her first goal of the season with the Hawks, putting Saint Anselm up 2-0 entering Halftime.  

  • The second half opened with the duo of Forster and Rayfield continuing their hot streak with Forster grabbing her fourth goal of the year and then Rayfield grabbing her second of the game to put the Hawks up 4-0. 

  • Later in the third quarter, Ruby Reid found Meghan Smith for her first goal of the season, extending the Hawks lead to 5-0 which would hold for the remainder of the game.  

BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS: 

  • The Hawks dominated the Ravens in shots, outshooting them 34 to 0. 

  • On the defensive side, the Ravens were busy, sophomore goaltender Zoë Noorlag (Amersfoort, Netherlands) faced 21 shots, saving 17. Then senior goaltender Addy Araneo (Yorktown Heights, NY) faced 5 shots, saving 4. 

  • Saint Anselm also dominated in penalty corners, having 21 opportunities to the Ravens' 0.  

UP NEXT FOR THE RAVENS: 

The Tuesday loss is a tough pill to swallow, especially after the Ravens captured their first victory of the season. The Ravens hope to return to the win column in their next game at home against Adelphi. Opening face-off is at Noon on Saturday, October, 5th at Sodexo Field.
