Field Hockey: FPU Blanks SCSU, 4-0

RINDGE, N.H. (09/28/24) - The Franklin Pierce field hockey team hosted the Owls of Southern Connecticut State University, Saturday afternoon at 12 PM. They picked up their first win of the season when they defeated the Owls, 4-0.  

RECORDS: 

  • FPU: 1-7 (1-2 NE10)  
  • SCSU: 2-6 (0-3 NE10)  

HOW IT HAPPENED:  

  • The first quarter would remain scoreless, but the Ravens were not afraid to make their dominance known. They recorded six shots and two penalty corners in the first quarter.  

  • Southern Connecticut responded in the beginning of the second quarter with two penalty corners and one shot, however, the Ravens finally broke lose when first year Abigail Tarka (Natick, Mass.) would take the ball up the field by herself and should the ball to the lower left corner to give the Ravens the 1-0 lead going into halftime. 

  • Midway through the third quarter, the Ravens would capitalize on a penalty corner when Cecelia Keller (Biddeford, Maine) would find Olivia O'Brien (Upton, Mass.) at the top arc who found Rebecca Phillips (West Amwell, N.J.) for a shot and a goal. 

  • Less than two minutes later, Keller would attempt a shot that would be blocked, but Caity Hazley (Kingston, Mass.) would find the ball for a goal to give the Ravens the 3-0 lead. 

  • With only one minute to go in at end of the game, Keller would take a back hand shot to confirm the lead for good for the Ravens.  

INSIDE THE LINES:  

  • The Ravens would out shoot the Owls, 24-7.  

  • The Ravens lead in penalty corners, 9-4.  

  • Zoe Noorlag (Amersfoort, Netherlands) would play 45 minutes in goal and would record two saves.  

UP NEXT FOR THE RAVENS: Franklin Pierce is back in action when they travel to Saint Anselm to face the Hawks for the second time this season. The game is set for 7 PM on Tuesday, October 1.
