Field Hockey: Drops First NE10 Game in Overtime

WEST HAVEN, Conn. (09/21/2024) - The Franklin Pierce field hockey team forced the Chargers of University of New Haven to overtime where they were handed the loss. The Ravens are now 0-1 in Northeast-10 conference play. 

RECORDS:  

Franklin Pierce: 0-6, 0-1 NE10 

University of New Haven: 2-3, 1-0 NE10 

HOW IT HAPPENED:  

  • The first three quarters remained scoreless for both teams. The Chargers led with four shots in the first quarter. The Ravens responded and led with four shots in the second quarter.  

  • First year Abigail Tarka (Natick, Mass.) took two shots on goal in the 27th minute to threaten the Chargers' goalie, Cara Lambert.  

  • The scoreless battle continued well into the second half. The Ravens continued to apply pressure on the Chargers. With only six minutes to go in the game, the Ravens drew four penalty corners in less than two minutes forcing goalkeeper Lambert to make three saves to keep the Chargers alive.  

  • The teams went into extra time and continued battling. In the first minute of overtime, Zoe Noorlag (Amersfoort, Netherlands) made a critical save that allowed the Ravens to continue fighting in golden goal.  

  • The scoreless line was finally broken when Erin Smith collected a pass and shot to the opposite post past Noorlag.  

IN BETWEEN THE LINES:  

  • The Chargers outshot the Ravens 14-7. 

  • In goal, Zoe Noorlag made 13 saves for the Ravens.  

  • The Chargers had 3 penalty corners while the Ravens had 8. 

UP NEXT FOR THE RAVENS: Franklin Pierce returns home when they host Southern New Hampshire University. The game is set for Wednesday, September 25 at 7 PM.
