EAST ROCKAWAY, N.Y. (September 3, 2017) – Three first-half goals were more than enough on Sunday afternoon, as the Franklin Pierce University field hockey team completed a season-opening weekend sweep with a 5-0 win at Molloy in non-conference play. Junior forward Dayna Kowesky (Leominster, Mass.) notched her first career multiple-goal game at Bay Park, while fellow junior midfielder Raegan Moulton (Baldwinville, Mass.) added four points on a goal and two assists.

With the win, Franklin Pierce improves to 2-0, while Molloy falls to 0-2.

Generating pressure in front of the net in the 23^rd minute, the Ravens opened the scoring with the only goal they would need on the afternoon. Freshman back Nicole McDowell (Yarmouth, Maine), who had scored her first collegiate goal on Saturday, snuck a shot past the keeper for her second of the season to open the scoring.

Less than seven minutes later, in the 30^th minute, Moulton made it two goals in two days as well, as her second of the season made it 2-0. Moulton then turned around and set up the first of the day for Kowesky, which came on a chip shot into the right side of the net with just 48 seconds remaining in the first half.

Kowesky completed her first career multiple-goal game on the other side of halftime, in the 44^th minute. Senior forward Carly Canavan (Kingston, N.Y.) provided the feed from 10 yards out. Canavan -- who is now 10 points behind the program record held by Tia Levins '12 -- has already contributed five points through the opening two games, including three assists, which is already just one behind her career high.

The first collegiate goal for sophomore midfielder Jessica Greeley (Winslow, Maine) capped the scoring in the 58^th minute, to create the 5-0 final. Moulton and junior back Sarah Bjorn (Holden, Mass.) provided the assists to set up Greeley on the right side off a corner play.

Senior goalkeeper Meaghan Williams (Salem, N.H.) started in goal for Franklin Pierce and picked up the win (2-0), though she did not face a shot on goal over the opening 48:01. Freshman Olivia Barnes (Greenwich, N.Y.) took over for the final 21:59 and turned aside the only shot she faced in her collegiate debut to complete the shutout. Junior netminder Tara Byrnes (0-2) piled up 16 saves against 21 shots, but suffered the loss for Molloy.

Franklin Pierce finished the game with advantages of 37-2 in shot attempts, 21-1 in shots on goal and 19-0 in penalty corners.

The Ravens return to the field on Friday, Sept. 8, when they travel to Merrimack for a non-conference contest. Game time is set for 7 p.m. at Martone-Mejail Field in North Andover, Mass.
