Jaksina Hat Trick Leads Field Hockey to 5-0 Shutout Victory at Saint Michael’s

Junior scores three times; Dolan adds goal, assist

Kim Jaksina Jaksina scored three goals to tally her first career hat trick at Saint Michael's on Tuesday afternoon.

COLCHESTER, Vt. (October 5, 2010) – Junior midfielder Kim Jaksina (Townsend, Mass.) scored three goals on Tuesday afternoon to lead the Franklin Pierce University field hockey team to a 5-0 victory over Saint Michael's in non-conference play at Duffy Field at Doc Jacobs Complex. Junior forward Danielle Dolan (West Brookfield, Mass.) chipped in a goal and an assist for the Ravens in the victory.

With the win, Franklin Pierce improves to 4-5 (1-0 Northeast-10), while Saint Michael's falls to 2-7 (0-1 Northeast-10).

After 18 scoreless minutes, the Ravens poured in three goals in a span of 9:56 to take a 3-0 lead into the halftime break. Jaksina opened the scoring at the 18:29 mark of the first half, when she rifled home her second goal of the season from the top of the circle. A shade over seven minutes later, junior forward Tia Levins (Manchester, Maine) popped home her team-leading ninth goal of the season from a sharp angle, six yards out from the left post.

Less than four minutes after the second goal, Jaksina would make it 3-0. Sophomore forward Susan Conroy (Walpole, Mass.) put the ball in play off a penalty corner for the Ravens. She sent it to sophomore midfielder Megan Bird (Laconia, N.H.), who stopped it at the top of the circle for Jaksina, who fired home her second goal of the game. Franklin Pierce held a 13-1 shots advantage in the first half, including 10-0 in shots on goal.

It was more of the same for the Ravens after the halftime break. Just over 10 minutes into the second stanza, Dolan netted her first goal of the season from just outside the right post, as she redirected home a feed from senior midfielder Kayla Simeone (North Kingstown, R.I.), who picked up her 11th point in the last five games.

Jaksina would cap the scoring with 5:01 to play in the game to complete the first hat trick of her career. Jaksina scored from the perimeter once again, this time off a feed from Dolan on a penalty corner, to create the 5-0 final.

Franklin Pierce finished the game with a 23-4 shots advantage, which included a 17-1 margin in the shots on goal department. The Ravens were awarded seven penalty corners compared to four for Saint Michael's.

Junior goalkeeper Brittany Nyzio (Attleboro, Mass.) started in front of the Franklin Pierce cage and did not face a shot in the first half while picking up the win (3-5). Junior Rachel Baxter (Cumberland, R.I.) minded the net for the Ravens in the second half and turned aside the only shot sent her way. Senior Meghan McLaughlin made 12 saves but took the loss (2-4) between the pipes for Saint Michael's.

The Ravens return to the field on Saturday, Oct. 9, when they return home to host Bentley in a Northeast-10 Conference contest. Game time is set for 1 p.m. at Sodexo Field in Rindge.
