RINDGE, N.H. (August 30,
2008) – Senior forward Amber Limanni (Mickleton,
N.J./Kingsway) notched a goal and assist on Saturday to lead C.W.
Post to a 2-1 victory over the Franklin Pierce University field
hockey team in non-conference action at Sodexo Field. Junior
forward Ashley Abernethy (Bellingham,
Mass./Bellingham) tallied the lone goal of the game for
the Ravens.
Freshman forward Danielle Dolan (West Brookfield,
Mass./West Brookfield) had the best chance of the first
half for Franklin Pierce when she was awarded a penalty stroke in
the 18th minute. However, C.W. Post sophomore goalkeeper Cortney
Colerm (Barker, N.Y./Barker) was equal to the task and turned the
shot aside to keep the game scoreless.
Limanni gave the Pioneers a 1-0 lead 21:25 into the first half.
She lunged to the left post to get her stick to and redirect a shot
by junior forward Krystal Napolitano (Coram, N.Y./Newfield) into
the cage for the only goal of the opening stanza. C.W. Post held a
12-5 shots advantage in the first 35 minutes.
The Pioneers doubled their lead to 2-0 with just 3:33 remaining in
the contest. Limanni was again in the middle of things as she dug
the ball out of a crowd in front of the net and found freshman
Amanda Miller (Newton, N.J./Newton) open on the left side. Miller
put the ball in the empty net for the eventual game-winning
goal.
Franklin Pierce got on the board just 1:25 later with their only
goal of the game as Abernethy had her initial shot blocked by
Colerm but put home the rebound to cut the C.W. Post lead in half.
Franklin Pierce would continue to pressure over the final
minute-plus, but the Pioneers were able to hang on for the 2-1
victory.
C.W. Post held an 8-6 shots advantage in the second half and
enjoyed a 20-11 edge over the full 70 minutes.
Colern made seven saves for C.W. Post to notch the victory.
Freshman goalkeeper Kristin Tormollan (Waterville,
Maine/Waterville) made 10 saves in front of the Franklin
Pierce cage in defeat.
The Ravens (0-1, 0-0 NE-10) return to the field on Tuesday, Sept.
2 when they travel to Southern Connecticut State for their
Northeast-10 Conference opener. Game time is set for 7 p.m. at Jess
Dow Field in New Haven, Conn. Franklin Pierce’s next home
game is on Sept. 6 against Merrimack at 1 p.m. C.W. Post (1-0, 0-0
