RINDGE, N.H. (October 14, 2006) –
The Franklin Pierce field hockey team suffered a tough 2-1 loss to
Saint Anselm College in Northeast-10 Conference action this
afternoon at Sodexho Field. Freshman Maddie Cantarow (Norwood,
Mass./Norwood) and sophomore Sam Rowe (Chelmsford,
Mass./Chelmsford) led the Hawks, posting one goal each.
Saint Anselm opened the scoring early in the first half as
Cantarow registered her second collegiate goal just 4:46 second
into the match. After a Franklin Pierce penalty early in the second
frame, Rowe increased the Hawks lead to 2-0 as she netted a penalty
stroke pass Raven senior goalkeeper Amanda Pietraszuk (Clinton, Conn./The Morgan
School).
Franklin Pierce responded midway through the second half, as
senior Nicole McKinnon
(Northfield, N.H./Winnisquam) recorded her first goal of the
season, blasting a shot past Saint Anselm freshman goalkeeper Riley
Haddock (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth) from the right side.
Franklin Pierce had several scoring opportunities late in the
second half but could not capitalize as Haddock made three saves in
the closing minutes to lead Saint Anselm to its third victory of
the season. Haddock totaled 12 saves on the match for the Hawks,
while Pietraszuk posted seven saves in net for the Ravens.
Franklin Pierce (3-10, 3-8 NE-10) will be in action again on
Wednesday as it travels to Assumption College at 7 p.m. Saint
Anselm (3-12, 2-11) will host American International College on
