Merrimack Shoots Past Franklin Pierce, 4-0

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. (September 6,
2006) – The Franklin Pierce field hockey team suffered
a tough 4-0 season-opening loss to Merrimack College in
Northeast-10 Conference action this afternoon at Warrior Field. The
Warriors netted a pair of goals in each half to earn their first
victory of the season.
Merrimack opened the scoring early as senior Elizabeth Seni
(Acton, Mass./Acton-Boxborough) netted her first goal of the season
just 2:53 into the game to give the Warriors the early edge. The
Warriors added another goal just 2:08 later, as sophomore Kristen
Belair (Methuen, Mass./Methuen) posted her first goal of the
season.
Merrimack held a 2-0 advantage heading into halftime and added two
insurance goals in the second half to preserve the victory.
Franklin Pierce goalkeeper Amanda
Pietraszuk (Clinton, Conn./The Morgan School) made 11 saves
despite the loss, while Merrimack goalkeeper, junior, Amy Larrabee
(Stratham, N.H./Exeter) made four saves to earn her first shutout
of the season.
Franklin Pierce (0-1, 0-1 NE-10) will be in action again on
Thursday, September 14, as the Ravens host Assumption College at 6
p.m. Merrimack College (1-0, 1-0 NE-10) will next travel to Bentley
College on Saturday for a game at 12 p.m.
