Franklin Pierce Falls Short Against Merrimack, 2-1
McMullin scores lone goal is Ravens loss

RINDGE, N.H. (September 1, 2005)
– Franklin Pierce suffered a tough 2-1 season-opening loss to
Merrimack College in Northeast-10 Conference field hockey action at
Sodexho Field this afternoon.
Junior Kristen Belair (Methuen, Mass./Metheun) opened the scoring
Merrimack with 15-minutes remaining in the first half, as she
converted a diving shot off a pass by classmate Cassandra Leone
(North Andover, Mass./The Pingree School).
Franklin Pierce came back to knot the game with 3:23 remaining in
the first half, as senior captain Amy McMullin (Belgrade,
Maine/Messalonskee) took a pass from classmate Anna Ranney (Newport, N.H./Newport) off
a penalty corner and deposited it in the back of the goal.
However, the Warriors regained the lead for good, when freshman
Julia Redman (North Haven, Conn./North Haven) took a pass from
Belair, and netted the game-winning goal in her collegiate
debut.
Franklin Pierce junior goalkeeper Amanda Pietraszuk (Clinton, Conn./The Morgan
Sch
ool) made 12 saves for the Ravens, while sophomore Amy
Larrabee (Stratham, N.H./Exeter) stopped five shots for
Merrimack.
Franklin Pierce (0-1, 0-1 NE-10) will be in action on Saturday,
when it hosts Stonehill College at noon. Merrimack (1-0, 1-0 NE-10)
will host 2004 NCAA Divisoin II runners-up Bentley College on
Saturday at 1 p.m.
