Franklin Pierce Takes Opener, 2-1

RINDGE, N.H. (September 3, 2004)
– The Franklin Pierce field hockey team upended Merrimack
College 2-1 in season-opening Northeast-10 Conference field hockey
action at the Franklin Pierce University Upper Field this
afternoon.
Chelsey Munson (Weybridge,
Vt./Middlebury Union) opened the scoring for the Ravens just
7:20 into the game, as she converted on a pass by sophomore Angela Barone (Norwood,
Pa./Interboro). The Warriors came back to knot the game at
one with 10:15 remaining in the first half, when senior Laura Kraby
(Plainville, Mass./King Phillip) took a pass from sophomore Anne
Rounce (South Windsor, Conn./South Windsor) and deposited it in the
back of the net.
Junior Amy McMullin (Leawood,
Kan./Messalonskee) notched her first collegiate goal off a
pass from senior Amanda McIntosh
(Madison, N.J./Madison) with 22:56 remaining in the game to
give the Ravens a 2-1 advantage. The goal proved to be the game
winner, as junior goalkeeper Brandi Guertin (Bellingham,
Mass./Bellingham) collected six of her nine saves en route
to shutting down the Warriors in the second half.
Franklin Pierce (1-0, 1-0 NE-10) will be in action on Tuesday, as
they travel to Bentley College for a match at 7 p.m. Merrimack
(0-1, 0-1 NE-10) will take on Stonehill at home on Thursday at 4
p.m.
