Mansfield Edges Franklin Pierce 3-2
Mansfield's Brooke Fronczkewicz scores game winner on penalty stroke
MANSFIELD, Pa. (September 22, 2002) -
The Franklin Pierce University field hockey suffered a tough 3-2
loss to Mansfield University in non-conference field hockey action
this afternoon.
Mansfield's Brooke Fronczkewicz scored the game winner off of a
penalty shot with three minutes remaining in regulation to lift the
Mounties past Franklin Pierce.
The Mounties opened up the scoring as senior forward, Teri
Tressler, netted her second marker of the season with 6:30 minutes
left in the first half.
The Ravens fought back as junior Debbie Jones (Escondido,
Calif./Bishops) knotted the game 1-1 with her first goal of
the season minutes into the second half.
Mansfield reclaimed the one goal advantage as Kristen Campbell
converted a pass from Fronczkewicz to make the score 2-1.
Franklin Pierce battled back once again, as freshman Alissa Silverman (East Sandwich, Mass./East
Sandwich) netted her first collegiate goal off of a feed
from sophomore Sarah Lavway
(Unity, Maine/Mount View) with 8:16 left to play.
With three minutes left in regulation, Fronczkewicz was awarded a
penalty shot and got past Franklin Pierce netminder Brandi Guertin (Bellingham,
Mass./Bellingham) for the win.
Mansfield goalkeeper, Heather Long made eight saves in net for the
win. Guertin made a career-high 17 saves in her first career start
for the Ravens despite taking the loss.
Franklin Pierce (0-6, 0-2 NE-10) returns to action on Saturday,
Sept. 28 when it travels to intra-state rivals, Saint Anselm
College for a Northeast-10 Conference matchup at 1 p.m. Mansfield
(4-3) next travels to Millersville University on Tuesday for a
match at 4 p.m.
