No. 1 Shippensburg Blows Past Franklin Pierce, 7-1

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. (September 21, 2002) - The Franklin Pierce University field hockey team fell to Shippensburg University, ranked No. 1 in the STX/NFCHA Division II National Coaches Poll, by a score of 7-1 in non-conference field hockey action this afternoon.

Shippensburg's Sarah Paine and Carli Border each scored a pair of goals to lead the Lady Raiders. Erica Joline tallied a goal and an assist in the win.

FPC's only marker was scored by Chrystean Page (Turner, Maine/Leavitt), who netted her first goal of the season on a penalty stroke at the 22:18 mark of the second half.

Shippensburg opened up the scoring immediately in the first half, scoring three unanswered goals in the first 11 minutes of the game. Paine netted the first goal at the 29:25 mark of the first half, while Joline recorded the second goal just five minutes later.

The Lady Raiders closed out the first half with three more goals to put the Ravens away for good.

Franklin Pierce netminder, Kasey McClements (Ashland, Mass./Ashland), made five saves in the first 11 minutes of play before giving way to freshman Brandi Guertin (Bellingham, Mass./Bellingham), who made a career-high 14 saves in 59 minutes in net. Shippensburg's Nora Luchansky recorded five saves in 35 minutes in net, while Samantha Moll and Michelle Mangle combined for four saves in the final 34 minutes of the game.

Franklin Pierce (0-5, 0-2 NE-10) returns to action tomorrow when it travels to Mansfield University for a non-conference match at 11 a.m. Shippensburg (7-0) next hosts Lock Haven University on Tuesday in a League matchup at 4 p.m.
