Baseball: Ravens Eliminated from Regionals Following Loss to SNHU, 10-3

HOOKSETT, NH (5/16/2024) – Franklin Pierce University baseball's 2024 season came to a close Thursday afternoon following a second loss in the double-elimination Regional tournament to the Southern New Hampshire University Penmen, 10-3.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • After licking their wounds from the previous loss against Jefferson, the Ravens grabbed the first run of the game in the top of the first inning. Following a double to left field from Joey Acker, Eli Battipaglia (Cheshire, CT) hit a sacrifice fly to left field and sent Acker across home plate to make it 1-0 Ravens.
  • Franklin Pierce University's NE10 Northeast Region Rookie Pitcher of the Year Niklas Pavia (Bolton, MA) kept the Penmen scoreless until the bottom of the third but SNHU powered back with three-RBI hit to center field.
  • Down 3-1 heading into the top of the fourth inning, the Ravens tied it up with a two-RBI moon shot from Kio Lugo (Boston, MA) which scored Ian Battipaglia.
  • Tied at 3-3 to start the bottom of the fifth inning, the Penmen exploded offensively tallying five runs off five hits to take the 8-3 lead.
  • The Penmen bullpen kept the Ravens scoreless from the fifth inning through the end and chipped in an additional two runs in the sixth and eighth to secure the 10-3 victory.
