Baseball: Explosive First Two Innings Sends Ravens by Saint Anselm to Secure Three Game Series Sweep

RINDGE, N.H (4/8/2024) – The Franklin Pierce baseball team secured the three-game series sweep Monday afternoon at Pappas Field against their intra-state rival, St. Anselm, 8-5. With the win, the Ravens improve to 14-9 overall, and hold a strong 8-2 record against Northeast-10 opponents.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• After a pair of wins on the day before, the Ravens picked up where they left off with five runs in the top of the first inning.The inning was highlighted by senior outfielder Hunter Wilichoski (Hamilton, MA), who had a 2 RBI single, scoring sophomore transfer first baseman Nolan DeAndrade (Bridgewater, MA) and sophomore outfielder Joey Acker (Upton, MA) to make it 4-0 Ravens. Next, graduate transfer catcher (Christopher Roberti (New Fairfield, CT) singled to center field, scoring Wilichoski to make it 5-0.
• In the top of the second, Acker hit a three-run shot to left-center field to make it 8-0 Franklin Pierce. Through the first two innings, the Ravens' bats were on fire, scoring eight runs on eight hits.
• In the bottom of the second, St. Anselm junior outfielder Jax Budgell drew a walk, scoring freshman infielder Declan Ryan to cut the Ravens to seven. Sophomore designated hitter Brenden Harris scored later in the inning to make it 8-2 when senior outfielder Zack Clough had an RBI sacrifice fly to center field. Junior infielder Daniel Scolaro homered in the third inning to cut the Ravens lead to five.
• In the bottom of the fifth, the Hawks scored two more runs to make it 8-5. St. Anselm's comeback fell short, and Franklin Pierce captured the season-series sweep.
BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS:
• Sophomore pitcher Kyle Salvati (Mount Sinai, NY) got his fourth start of the season. He pitched one inning and gave up no hits, two runs, five walks, and struck out two batters. Freshman pitcher Jamie Legget (Southington, CT) came in relief and pitched 3.1 innings. He gave up four hits, three runs, one home run, two walks, and struck out two batters.
• Senior pitcher Sean Foody (Tappan, NY) pitched 3.2 scoreless innings in relief. He gave up two hits and struck out four batters. Foody captured his first win of the season. Junior pitcher Stephen Bangs (Stoughton, MA) closed out the game and picked up his third save of the season. He pitched one inning and gave up one hit and one walk.
• Franklin Pierce outhit St. Anselm 12-7. The Ravens had seven stolen bases.
• Acker was one for four, scored two runs, and had three RBIs.
NEXT FOR THE RAVENS: The Ravens hit the road on Wednesday, April 10, to Colchester, Vermont, for a doubleheader against St. Michael's. Game one is at noon, followed by game two at 3 p.m. Franklin Pierce leads the season series two games to none.
