Northeast-10 Academic All-Conference Teams

MANSFIELD, Mass. (April 15, 2020) – Franklin Pierce University has had nine student-athletes earn Northeast-10 Academic All-Conference honors for the fall season, as announced on Wednesday by the Conference office. Sophomore forward Ryan Gorbett (Cleveland Heights, Ohio) and senior forward James Morrissey (West Haven, Conn.) of the men’s ice hockey team; sophomore forward Izzy Lipinski (Farmington, Conn.) of the women’s basketball team; junior Hugo Arlabosse (Marseille, France), sophomore Riley Fenoff (Danville, Vt.), senior Tyler Hayes (Kings Park, N.Y.) and junior Antonio Rua (Burrillville, R.I.) of the men’s track & field team; and sophomore Paola Brena (Queretaro, Mexico) and junior Marisa Carbone (Scarborough, Maine) of the women’s track & field team were all honored by the league. The selected Ravens were among 77 student-athletes across seven sports honored by the NE10. The nine selections for Franklin Pierce were the most of any NE10 institution.

To be eligible for selection to the Academic All-Conference Team, a student-athlete must fulfill each of the following criteria: (1) participated in at least half of the team’s competitions as a starter or significant contributor, (2) achieved a 3.30 cumulative grade-point average (on a 4.0 scale), and (3) completed at least one academic year at his/her current institution. The teams are chosen by the vote of a committee of athletic administrators and Faculty Athletic Representatives. In addition, one honoree in each sport is selected as the NE10’s Sport Excellence award winner in that sport.

Arlabosse and Fenoff each earned their second Academic All-Conference selection of the year, as they were honored for their cross country seasons in the fall, though it is the first career track & field selection for both. Each of the seven other Franklin Pierce honorees all earned their first career Academic All-Conference accolades.

Gorbett is a finance major with a 3.78 GPA. He played in all 32 games for the Ravens this winter and was third on the team in scoring, with 27 points on seven goals and 20 assists. He mixed in two power-play goals and three game-winning goals along the way.

Morrissey is also a finance major, with a 3.73 GPA. He played in all 32 games as well, and was fourth on the squad in points, with 26, on 11 goals and 15 assists. He put home seven power-play goals and netted three game-winning goals.

Lipinski is a business finance major with a 3.88 GPA. She earned All-NE10 Second Team honors this winter, after starting in all 26 games. The team’s leading scorer and rebounder, Lipinski averaged 15.9 points per game while pulling down 7.9 rebounds per game. She added 3.0 assists and 1.8 steals per game as well.

Arlabosse is a mass communication major with a 3.78 GPA. He was named NE10 Track Athlete of the Year for the indoor season after claiming the league title in the 800 meters at the NE10 Championships. Arlabosse also earned All-East Region honors from the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association in both the 800 meters and the distance medley relay, and was the New England champion in the 800 meters.

Fenoff is a biology major with a perfect, 4.0 GPA. He was a silver medalist at the NE10 Championships as part of the second-place distance medley relay team. He picked up USTFCCCA All-East Region honors the distance medley relay as well.

Hayes is also a biology major, with a 3.91 GPA. He was also a member of the silver-medalist distance medley relay squad and also earned All-East Region honors for the performance.

Rua is a biology and secondary education major with a 3.97 GPA. He was a member of the 4x800-meter relay team which finished fourth at the NE10 Championships.

Brena is a health sciences major with a 3.72 GPA. She was named as NE10 Field Athlete of the Year for the indoor season, after taking home the league crown in the high jump at the NE10 Championships for the second straight year. Brena also earned All-East Region honors from the USTFCCCA in the high jump.

Finally, Carbone is also a health sciences major, with a 3.96 GPA. She was a member of both the 4x800-meter and distance medley relay squads at the NE10 Championships, both of which finished seventh.
