Six Student-Athletes Named to Northeast-10 Fall All-Academic Teams
All six are standouts on the field/court and in the classroom
RINDGE, N.H. (February 15,
2011) -- Six Franklin Pierce University student-athletes
on Tuesday were named to their respective sport's 2010 Northeast-10
Conference Fall All-Academic Team. The six honorees included field
hockey's Tia Levins (Manchester, Maine) and
Brittany Nyzio (Attleboro, Mass.), women's
soccer's Amanda Panaro (Rockland, Mass.),
volleyball's Chelsie Kohout (Harrison Township,
Mich.) and men's soccers Tom Reilly (Wallasey,
England) and Victor Goncalves (Rio de Janeiro,
Brazil). All six student-athletes were also recently named
to the Northeast-10 Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll for the fall
semester.
"I am extremely proud of these six student-athletes," said Vice
President/Director of Athletics Bruce Kirsh. "They are standouts in
their respective sport, but they produce just as many highlights in
the classroom and are true leaders on our campus."
Levins, a junior forward and business management major, helped
guide the field hockey team to a spot in the Northeast-10 playoffs
last fall, while also earning Second-Team All-Northeast-10 honors.
She scored 12 goals and assisted on two others for 26 points, and
broke the school-record for goals in a single season.
Nyzio, a junior goalkeeper and political science major, was one of
the top field hockey backstops in the conference last fall. She
went 8-9 with a strong 1.55 goals against average. Nyzio picked
up her 16th career win in the regular season finale versus
Southern Connecticut State as she became the program leader for
career victories.
Panaro, a junior forward and mass communications major, was the top
offensive player in the NE-10 last fall in the sport of women's
soccer. She scored a league-best 20 goals and assisted on four
others for a league-high 44 points, while also earning First-Team
All-Northeast-10 honors. Panaro was also among the national leaders
in goal scoring and earned numerous All-America honors as well.
Kohout, a senior libero and biology major, earned Second-Team
All-Northeast-10 honors last fall after she led the league in digs
per set at 5.77. She also anchored a Ravens team defensive effort
that led the conference in digs per set (17.61) and ranked third in
opponent hitting percentage (.158). She ended her career as the
program's all-time digs leader with 1,905 in that category.
Reilly, a junior back and business major, earned Northeast-10
Conference Player-of-the-Year honors last fall after helping to
guide the Ravens to the conference regular season and tournament
titles. He scored a pair of a goals in Franklin Pierce's 5-1 win
over Merrimack in the quarterfinals of the NE-10 Tournament and
helped anchor one of the best defensive units in the entire
nation.
Goncalves, a junior forward and business major, earned Second-Team
All-Northeast-10 honors after ranking among the league leaders in
goals, assists and points. He helped guide an offensive attack,
which allowed the Ravens to capture the program's first conference
title since the 2006 season.
To be eligible for selection to the academic all-conference teams,
a student-athlete must have met and/or exceeded the following
minimum requirements: 1. participated in at least half of the
team's competitions and be either a starter or significant
contributor; 2. achieved a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on
a 4.0 scale); and 3. completed at least one academic year at
his/her current institution. The Northeast-10 Academic
All-Conference teams are chose by a vote of a committe of athletic
administrators and Faculty Athletic Representatives (FAR).
