Franklin Pierce Athletics Unveil 2023 Hall of Fame Inductees

RINDGE (9/5/2023) – The Franklin Pierce University Department of Athletics is pleased to release the names for the 2023 Hall of Fame Inductees who will be honored at the annual induction ceremony on October 6th. This year's class includes one athletics contributor and three athletes. There names are:

Fredrick "Fred" Berger, Class of 1976, Athletics Contributor

  • Fred Berger '76 was an active member of the Franklin Pierce community, serving as team manager for both the baseball and basketball teams from 1972 to 1976.
  • In 1990 Mr. Berger created the Fred Berger Scholarship Fund, an endowed scholarship that he has continued to support to this day. The scholarship benefits a team manager of one of the University's Intercollegiate teams. Since its inception, the Fred Berger Scholarship has benefited more than 30 students and contributed over $20,000 to the University's annual scholarship program.

Donald "DJ" Johnson, Class of 2001, Men's Basketball

  • Ranks 24th in program history for career points: 1,268
  • Holds program record for single game steals: 10
  • Ranks 2nd in program history for career steals: 243
  • Holds program record for single game assists: 18
  • Ranks 3rd in program history for career assists: 722
  • First team all NE-10 his senior year and team MVP
  • All league player his junior year and team MVP
  • After Pierce, DJ played and coached for the Washington Generals, the team that famously plays against the Harlem Globetrotters.

Alyssa (Lambert) Whitney, Class of 2016, M.B.A. `18, Women's Cross Country & Track and Field

  • 2x All-American. 1st All-American in women's program history.
  • 2016 Walter Peterson FPU Athlete of the year
  • Still holds FPU records 10 different events
  • 7 time All-NE10
  • 4 time All-Region
  • 3 time National all-academic

Garret Olson, Class of 2011, Baseball

  • First two-time All-America selection in program history. Was a consensus First Team selection in 2006. Was also a consensus selection in 2005, when he earned Second Team honors from the ABCA and Third Team honors from the NCBWA.
  • ABCA East Region and Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Year in 2006.
  • All-Northeast Region and All-Northeast-10 Conference First Team selection in both 2005 and 2006.
  • Helped lead 2006 team to program's second NCAA Regional title, as well as a national semifinalist finish.
  • 2005 squad captured the NE10 title, while the 2006 team took home the regular season crown. The 2004 team claimed the ECAC title.
  • In the program record book, ranks third all-time in runs scored (166), fourth in batting average (.360), tied for fourth in home runs (28), ninth in hits (228), 12th in RBI (126), 14th in stolen bases (44) and tied for 14th in doubles (38).
  • Holds the program single-season records in hits (88) and runs scored (69), both set in 2006.
  • Highest draft pick in program history. Was selected in the fourth round (126 overall) by the Minnesota Twins in the 2006 MLB First-Year Player Draft.
  • Returned to school after his professional baseball career and finished his degree in 2011.
