RINDGE, N.H. (September 12,
2009) – Franklin Pierce University Director of
Athletics Bruce Kirsh announced Monday that
Doug DeBiase has been named the Director for
Athletic Communications at the school. He will begin his duties
effective Sept. 21.
“I am very pleased to name Doug DiBiase as our new Director
of Athletic Communication,” said Kirsh. “He brings a
wealth of experience to the position and I believe he is very well
prepared to lead us into the future.”
DeBiase comes to Franklin Pierce with seven-plus years of full-time
communications experience, including spending the last four years
at the University of Maine as the Associate Manager of Athletic
Media Relations. At Maine, DeBiase worked with the football,
women’s basketball and softball programs. He also worked with
the volleyball, women’s soccer and cross country programs at
various points during his tenure in Orono. DeBiase’s efforts
to promote the programs produced stories in national media outlets
such as ESPN Radio’s Mike & Mike in the Morning,
ESPN.com, Sports Illustrated on Campus, NCAA.org, and NCAA on
Campus. He also promoted five student-athletes who went on to be
named either conference player of the year or student-athlete of
the year in their respective sports. He worked with the 2008
nationally ranked Black Bear football team, which advanced to the
NCAA playoffs and had two players garner major awards from the
Colonial Athletic Association. DeBiase also has extensive
experience working various NCAA and conference tournaments.
DeBiase also oversaw the redesign of Maine’s official
website, (www.GoBlackBears.com) in February of 2008, and served as
the liaison between the athletic department and its website
company. He also had a hand in several multimedia projects at
Maine, including: producing videos for GoBlackBears.com; providing
video clips for the state-of-the-art video scoreboard in Alfond
Arena; and producing yearly highlight videos for the football and
women’s basketball programs.
“I’m very excited for the opportunity to be joining the
Franklin Pierce team,” DeBiase said. “Franklin Pierce
is one of the top programs both nationally and in the always
competitive Northeast-10 Conference. I look forward to promoting
the future success the school’s student-athletes and teams
will achieve.”
A 2002 graduate of Penn State, DeBiase spent two years working in
the athletic department’s communications office as a student
assistant. Following graduation, he spent time working in media
relations offices at the University of Florida, United States Naval
Academy, and on game days for the Baltimore Ravens during the 2004
season.
A native of Hollidaysburg, Pa., DeBiase was married to Elizabeth
Fowler on June 20, 2009, in Hampden, Maine.
