Five Ravens Land On Northeast-10 Conference Winter All-Academic Team

RINDGE, N.H. (June 30,
2009) – Five Franklin Pierce University
student-athletes have been selected to the Northeast-10 Conference
All-Academic Team for the winter season, as announced by the
conference office. Sophomore guard Kinard Dozier (Dedham,
Mass./The Winchendon School), sophomore guard
Cynthia Gaudet (Coventry, R.I./LaSalle Academy)
and junior All-America forward Johannah Leedham
(Ellesmere Port, England/Cheshire Academy (Conn.)) of the
women’s basketball team and junior forward Phil
LaBreck (Thornton, N.H./John Stark Regional) and sophomore
forward Sean Woodring (Rogue River, Ore./Rogue
River) of the ice hockey team represented Franklin Pierce
among the 36 student-athletes honored by the Northeast-10.
To be eligible for selection to the All-Academic Team,
student-athletes were required to meet three requirements.
Student-athletes must have participated in at least half of their
team’s competitions as a starter or significant contributor,
achieved a 3.30 cumulative grade-point average (on a 4.0 scale) and
completed at least one academic year at their current institution.
The All-Academic Team was chosen by a vote of Northeast-10
Conference Sports Information Directors.
Dozier has posted a 3.31 grade-point average as an accounting
major. He appeared in 27 games for Franklin Pierce this winter,
including 26 starts, and led the team in scoring with 12.6 points
per game. Dozier also led the team by averaging 32.7 minutes per
game and chipped in 6.1 rebounds per game, 1.93 assists per game
and 1.85 steals per game. He collected three double-doubles on the
season and tallied a season-high 23 points at Saint Rose on Jan.

Gaudet currently carries a
near-perfect 3.96 grade-point average as a biology major. She made
34 appearances, including nine starts, for the Ravens this winter
and chipped in 5.4 rebounds per game over 19.8 minutes per game as
a key reserve. Gaudet also contributed 1.8 rebounds per game and
2.03 assists per game. She started and played 35 minutes in the
Northeast-10 Conference Championship game against Bentley and
contributed a career-best 19 points in a 93-81 Franklin Pierce
victory. Gaudet also collected ESPN: The Magazine Academic
All-District honors this winter.
Leedham sports a 3.36 grade-point average as a sports and leisure
service major. This winter, she was named the Daktronics East
Region and Northeast-10 Player of the Year for the second-straight
season while leading the Northeast-10 in scoring for the
third-straight year. Leedham broke her own single-season program
scoring-average record with 23.5 points per game (5th nationally),
and added 6.1 rebounds (19th NE-10), 3.2 assists (14th), 3.1 steals
(1st) and 1.3 blocked shots (7th) per contest. She also broke her
own single-season program record with 799 points, which matched the
Northeast-10 scoring record and is the 16th-best single-season
total in the history of Division II. This is Leedham’s second
straight selection to the Northeast-10 All-Academic Team. She was
also an ESPN: The Magazine Academic All-District selection this
season.

LaBreck has amassed a 3.87
grade-point average as a political science major and philosophy
minor. His 17 assists this year are the second-most in a single
season in program history and his 26 points ties for second-most as
well. A Second-Team All-Northeast-10 Conference selection, LaBreck
finished fourth in the NE-10 with his 17 assists and added nine
goals to total 26 points while playing in all 25 games. He will
enter his senior season seventh in program history in goals (21),
eighth in points (48) and ninth in assists (27). LaBreck was also
named to the ECAC Northeast All-Academic Team this season and
collects his second consecutive Northeast-10 All-Academic Team
selection.
Woodring has put together a 3.91 grade-point average as a biology
major. He appeared in 24 games this season, scored five times,
including once on the power play, and added five assists to tally
10 points. In November, he was named to the Northeast-10 Conference
Weekly Honor Roll after a three-point outing against Assumption on
Nov. 14. Only halfway through his collegiate career, Woodring ranks
10th in program history with eight career power-play goals. He was
also an ECAC Northeast All-Academic Team selection this winter.
