Women’s Cross Country Places 10th at Northeast-10 Championship

EASTON, Mass. (October 22, 2016) – A pair of freshmen would be the team's first two finishers on Saturday afternoon, as the Franklin Pierce University women's cross country team finished 10th (of 15) at the Northeast-10 Conference Championship, hosted by Stonehill. For the Ravens, it represented an improvement of two positions over last season's 12th-place finish.

Freshman Julia Cormier (Northwood, N.H.) led the Ravens on the day with a 6k time of 24:05.7, which was good enough for 34th place. She was followed, less than 20 seconds later, by fellow freshman Rebecca Zylak (Goffstown, N.H.), who finished in 41st, with a time of 24:21.4.

From there, it was another 39 spots back to the next Franklin Pierce runner to cross the line, as junior Natalie Davies (Ware, Mass.) finished 80th, with a time of 25:25.1. Junior Alexa Cassara (Bay Shore, N.Y.) in 88th and sophomore Sarah Hart (Glastonbury, Conn.) in 89th then rounded out the Ravens' scoring five. The former turned in a time of 25:52.5, while the latter checked in at 25:53.4.

It all added up to 268 points and a 10th-place finish for the Ravens. Up front, host Stonehill (40 points) ran away with the Northeast-10 title, as it had the individual champion and put all five of its scoring runners in the top-15 overall. The Skyhawks picked up a 42-point win over Assumption (82 points) in second. Bentley (131 points) in third, Merrimack (149 points) in fourth and Southern Connecticut State (173 points) in fifth rounded out the top five.

Stonehill senior Nicole Borofski was the individual champion, running a time of 21:26.2 to win by over 40 seconds.

The Ravens return to action on Saturday, Nov. 5, when they host the NCAA Championship East Regional at Hopkinton State Fairgrounds in Hopkinton, N.H.
