RINDGE, N.H. (October 18, 2019) – The Franklin Pierce University volleyball duo of Abigail Garnhart (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and Tessa Brandt (Foster, R.I.) recorded double-digit kills as the Ravens lost a 3-1 (25-21, 20-25, 11-25, 23-25) decision to Northeast-10 Conference opponent the University of New Haven during "The Teal Game" for Ovarian Cancer Awareness Friday evening.

With the win, the Chargers gallop to 11-6, 4-1 NE10 while the Ravens drop to 7-9, 1-4 NE10.

Garnhart led the Ravens attack with a team-high 12 kills off 31 attack attempts. Brandt added 11 kills of her own also being set for attempts 31 times over the course of the match. Freshman Mariah Robles (West Covina, Calif.) provided nine kills, one block, and a .304 hitting percentage. Setter Mary Pease (East Haddam, Conn.) dished out 38 assists and chipped in five kills for good measure. Junior libero Ellie Ivanova (Sofia, Bulgaria) carried all players with 23 digs in the showdown.

For New Haven, Mallory Nowicki and Kali Greathead contributed 15 kills apiece and Ruby Fera tacked on 13 kills as well. As a team, UNH out-blocked the Ravens at the net by a 14-to-6 margin and they also outhit the crimson and grey .288-to-.181.

New Haven notched the first kill of the game and the Ravens answered with three straight including a Brandt ace to lead 3-1. New Haven rallied to tie until an Ingrid Lindstrom (Dudley, Mass.) kill and an Ivanova ace put FPU ahead 9-7. The Chargers pulled within one, 16-15 until a stretch of six straight for the Ravens including a dig by Ivanova to a tip kill by Brandt made it a 22-15 Raven lead. New Haven refused to settle and came within four, but Garnhart wrapped up the first set victory with a middle mash.

Franklin Pierce hit a match-high .355 in the set which was their highest percentage across all four sets.

The Ravens jumped in front 5-2 early in the second set off a Charger attack miscue. A couple serves passed until Sammie Paguia set up Nowicki to deadlock the set at 8-8. Sophomore Cierra Dolan (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) was part of the next two points, a right side mash along with a dual block assisted by Lindstrom to push ahead 10-8. The Chargers eventually outscored the Ravens 10-2 to lead 18-12, but the Ravens answered with a 6-1 binge to make the margin 19-18. Jalynn Finnie tied the match at one set apiece converting the set clincher.

The important third set was all UNH as they hit .524 in the set and held the Ravens to .074 hitting en route to a 25-11 set win.

In the fourth set, the Ravens used a 4-0 spurt to take a 9-8 lead off a Robles and Garnhart stuff combined with a Pease ace. Behind by two, Robles attacked the back right corner and sophomore defensive specialist Addison Wright (Carmel, Ind.) laid down an ace to tie the score again this time at 13 all. With New Haven ahead 23-19, the Ravens rallied to come within one at 24-23, however, Robles sailed the set tying kill out of bounds to end the duel.

The Ravens return to the court on Tuesday on the road at American International College with game time set for 7:00 p.m.
