Volleyball Collects AVCA Team Academic Award

LEXINGTON, Ky. (July 22, 2020) – The Franklin Pierce University volleyball team has been named as a recipient of the American Volleyball Coaches Association’s Team Academic Award for the 2019-20 academic year, as announced on Monday by the AVCA.
Lindstrom, Ivanova and Garnhart Selected As All-Conference Volleyball Players

Franklin Pierce University volleyball players Ingrid Lindstrom (Dudley, Mass.), Ellie Ivanova (Sofia, Bulgaria) and Abigail Garnhart (Colorado Springs, Colo.) have been chosen as Northeast-10 Conference All-Conference athletes the league office announced Wednesday afternoon after a coaches’ vote was conducted.

With their backs against the wall facing a sweep in the Northeast-10 Conference Quarterfinals, the no. 7 seeded Franklin Pierce University volleyball team forced a fourth set and almost made the match go the distance during a 3-1 (19-25, 15-25, 27-25, 25-27) defeat to the no. 2 seed and reigning NCAA Division II East Region champions American International College Tuesday evening at the Henry A. Butova Gym.

FPU made easy work of conference foe Assumption College sweeping the Greyhounds 3-0 (25-19, 25-18, 25-16) on Senior Day for their third three-set victory of the month.

Franklin Pierce University volleyball freshman right side hitter Mariah Robles (West Covina, Calif.) manufactured a career-high 25 kills off .328 hitting as the crimson and grey earned a 3-2 (31-29, 21-25, 21-25, 25-20, 15-10) comeback win over Northeast-10 Conference opponent Pace University Saturday afternoon at the Goldstein Fitness Center. The win, the fourth over the last five games for the Ravens evens up their mark at 11-11 and puts them at 5-6 in league play while the Setters fall to 3-21, 2-9 NE10.
DOUBLE TROUBLE: Brittany Fleck Coaches Two Teams at Once

Coaching at the NCAA level is a tough job. Hours of film, practice prep, game prep, travel, and so much more to ensure your team is not only performing well, but also happy. While some coaches find one team to be enough, Brittany Fleck took on a nearly impossible job: coach two teams at one time. The Franklin Pierce University field hockey assistant coach volunteered to help out with the volleyball team as well, when a position opened up on the coaching staff this fall.

With the loss, the crimson and grey fall to 9-11, 3-6 NE10 while the Dolphins improve to 11-11, 4-6 NE10.

The Franklin Pierce University volleyball team led by the duo of freshman right side Mariah Robles (West Covina, Calif.) and senior middle hitter Abigail Garnhart (Colorado Springs, Colo.) kicked off the month of November with a bang making quick work of Northeast-10 Conference opponent the College of Saint Rose 3-0 (25-17, 25-20, 25-17) Friday night in The Fieldhouse. With the win, the crimson and grey improve to 9-10 overall and 3-5 NE10 while the Golden Knights slide to 10-14, 3-6 NE10.

Franklin Pierce University volleyball freshman right side hitter Mariah Robles (West Covina, Calif.) established a new career-high with 18 kills as the crimson and grey concluded a six-game losing streak with a dominant 3-1 (21-25, 25-21, 25-15, 25-11) win against Northeast-10 Conference opponent Southern Connecticut State University Saturday afternoon in the Pelz Gymnasium. With the win, the Ravens improve to 8-10, 2-5 NE10 while the Owls slide to 9-13, 2-4 NE10.
