Swiderski and Klusendorf lead bounce back victory, Volleyball downs Pace 3-0
RINDGE, N.H. (October 25, 2014) – Senior Catie Swiderski (Rocky Point, N.Y.) continued her streak of brilliance with a 15 kill match with a hitting percentage of .394 on Saturday afternoon, leading the Ravens to a 3-0 bounce back sweep of the Pace University Setters on the Ravens annual "Dig Pink" match sponsored by the Side Out Foundation.
The Ravens were shaky throughout, and had small defensive lapses from time to time. However, they were solid on the offensive side, keyed by the leadership of Swiderski. The Setters jumped out to a fast lead early on, grabbing the first four points of the first set. However, the Ravens responded, clawed back, and won the first set 25-23. The same would be said for the second set, as the Ravens kept their pace and control of the game, winning the second set as well 25-22. Finally, the Ravens wrapped it all up in demanding fashion, with Swiderski smashing home the winning point to take home the 25-17 win, and taking the match 3-0.
After Swiderski, it was freshman Madison Klusendorf (Santa Maria, Calif.) picking up the slack, finishing with nine kills, second most by a Raven on the day. Freshman Hannah Runge (Deltona, Fla.) was feeling generous handing out 34 assists, and also recording three service aces on the match. Defensively, Runge led the way in digs with 14, recording a double-double, while junior Sarah MacHugh (Red Hook, N.Y.) was the other Raven with double-figure digs with 11.
For Pace, defense was their name of the game, as the Setters had a total of nine team blocks on the match. Junior Brittani Muller had a hand in six of those blocks, while junior Macey Danker contributed in four. Sophomore libero Samantha Marquez led the Setters with 13 digs, while Danker and junior Alyssa Marchino chipped in eight apiece. Marchino also led the Setters in kills with five on the match.
The Ravens now improve to 14-9 (7-4 Northeast-10), and hit the road next weekend for two games, first starting in Syracuse, N.Y. at LeMoyne at 7 p.m.
