Volleyball Downed by Le Moyne, 3-0

Ray notches double-double

Ray Ray posted a double-double with 10 kills and 16 digs against Le Moyne on Sunday.

RINDGE, N.H. (October 23, 2011) – Sophomore right side Natasha Ray (Colorado Springs, Colo.) posted a 10-kill, 16-dig double-double on Sunday afternoon, but the Franklin Pierce University volleyball team was defeated, 3-0, by Le Moyne in Northeast-10 Conference play at the Fieldhouse. Junior outside hitter Allison Hebel finished with 14 kills and 13 digs in the victory for Le Moyne.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 10-11 (4-6 Northeast-10), while Le Moyne improves to 13-10 (3-7 Northeast-10). Le Moyne swept the match by set scores of 25-16, 25-18 and 25-22.

For Franklin Pierce, Ray was the only player in double digits on the offensive side of the net, though sophomore middle Katie Jackson (Centennial, Colo.) did pick up nine kills on the afternoon. No other Raven tallied five kills as the team hit just .049 with 30 kills and 23 errors over 144 attempts. Sophomore setter Stephanie Svorinic (Scottsdale, Ariz.) finished with 19 assists.

Ray led the Ravens defensively as well, while sophomore libero Lauren Miller (Alexandria, Ind.) added 15 digs and freshman outside hitter Catie Swiderski (Rocky Point, N.Y.) tallied nine. At the net, three different Ravens recorded two blocks apiece, including Ray, who recorded both of hers solo.

For Le Moyne, Hebel led three players in double digits, and junior middle Morgan McDermott was the match's most efficient player, hitting .333 while picking up 10 kills on 21 swings. Junior right side Danielle Fetsch also finished with 10 kills. The Dolphins ran the offense through freshman setter Megan Maisonet, who dished out 41 assists.

Defensively, Le Moyne dug out nearly everything sent its way, piling up 79 digs, which represented more than half of Franklin Pierce's attacks on the afternoon. Junior libero Julianne Shelton led five Dolphins in double figures with 22 digs, and was followed by Fetsch (19), Hebel (13), junior outside hitter Bethany Fabian (11) and Maisonet (10). Up front, McDermott led the way with three block assists.

The Ravens return to the court on Tuesday, Oct. 25, when they remain home to host Saint Anselm in a Northeast-10 Conference match. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Fieldhouse.
