RINDGE, N.H. (November 5, 2010) – Senior outside hitter Christina Calderon (Tombstone, Ariz.) led all players with 13 kills and hit .294 on Friday night, but the Franklin Pierce University volleyball team was defeated, 3-1, at home by Adelphi in Northeast-10 Conference play at the Fieldhouse. Sophomore outside hitters Chelsea Overholt and Emily Dorko recorded 12 kills each for Adelphi, with the latter hitting a match-best .579.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 10-12 (4-10 Northeast-10), while Adelphi improves to 17-10 (10-4 Northeast-10. Adelphi took each of the first two sets by 25-16 scores before Franklin Pierce picked up a 25-23 win in the third set. Adelphi closed out the match with a 25-15 victory in the fourth set.

Calderon, graduate student outside hitter Kelsey Painter (Glendale, Ariz.) and freshman outside hitter Lauren Miller (Alexandria, Ind.) led the offense in that fourth-set victory, as each collected four kills. Painter did not commit an error in the set over eight attacks, while senior setter Pamela Walker (Chino Hills, Calif.) dished out 12 assists.

With Adelphi leading 23-20 and looking to put away the match, Dorko could not keep her serve in play, and the error cut the lead to 23-21. Freshman middle Katie Jackson (Cherry Creek, Colo.) followed with an authoritative kill and then stuffed Overholt on the next play to even the set at 23-23. After Adelphi hit a ball out of play, Calderon finished off the set with a kill of her own. Unfortunately, the third-set win would not spark a sustained rally, as Adelphi answered with a 10-point win in the fourth set to close out the match.

On the night, Calderon was the only Raven in double digits offensively, though Miller finished with nine kills and Jackson added eight more. Walker finished the evening with 30 assists, while Miller served up a match-best four aces.

Defensively, senior libero Chelsie Kohout (Harrison Township, Mich.) led all players with 23 digs and was joined in double digits by Painter (16 digs) and Miller (14). Freshman middle Ashley Bruce (Hampton Falls, N.H.) provided two block assists.

For Adelphi, Dorko and Overholt were the only two to finish in double digits, though junior middle Patawe Simms hit .471 and finished with nine kills and freshman outside hitter Colleen Raga added nine more. The Panthers offense was run by senior setter Heather Mau, who dished out a match-high 46 assists.

On the defensive side of the net, both senior outside hitter Hilary Pavels and sophomore libero Bree Popham posted 19 digs, while sophomore outside hitter Alexandra Kahen rang up 15 of her own. Simms tallied two block assists at the net for Adelphi.

The Ravens return to the court on Saturday, Nov. 6 when they close out the season with a tri-match at home in the Fieldhouse. Franklin Pierce will play Pace at 1 p.m. in a Northeast-10 match and New York Institute of Technology at 5 p.m. In between, Pace and NYIT will square off at 3 p.m. The Ravens will honor their four senior student-athletes prior to the start of the 5 p.m. match.
