Volleyball Falls to Merrimack, 3-0

Painter Painter finished with 15 digs on Tuesday night against Merrimack.

RINDGE, N.H. (November 2, 2010) – Senior outside hitter Molly Cindric recorded a double-double with 14 kills and 13 digs and hit .406 on Tuesday night to lead Merrimack to a 3-0 sweep over the Franklin Pierce University volleyball team in Northeast-10 Conference play at Franklin Pierce's Fieldhouse. Senior libero Chelsie Kohout (Harrison Township, Mich.) recorded 19 digs in defeat for Franklin Pierce.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 10-11 (4-9 Northeast-10), while Merrimack improves to 11-13 (8-6 Northeast-10). Merrimack swept through the three sets by scores of 25-17, 25-21 and 25-16.

Merrimack started and finished strong, as the Warriors hit .306 in the first set and .400 in the third to neutralize a .227 in the second set and finish at .304 for the evening. Meanwhile, the Ravens offense started to come to life in the third set, when the team hit .150, but Franklin Pierce finished the match at just .111.

For Franklin Pierce, freshman middle Katie Jackson (Cherry Creek, Colo.) was the most efficient, as she hit .250 with seven kills on the evening, though it was freshman outside hitter Lauren Miller (Alexandria, Ind.) who finished with a team-high eight kills. Freshman middle Ashley Bruce (Hampton Falls, N.H.) added six kills of her own, while graduate student outside hitter Kelsey Painter (Glendale, Ariz.) chipped in five more. Senior setter Pamela Walker (Chino Hills, Calif.) ran the offense on the night for the Ravens and finished with a match-best 27 assists.

On the defensive side of the net, Kohout was joined in double digits by Painter, who finished with 15 digs. Miller posted two block assists in the match. As a team, the Ravens finished with 61 digs to average 20.33 digs per set on the night.

While Cindric led Merrimack in kills, it was sophomore middle Jenna Reilly who set the high-water mark with her .571 hitting percentage, as she finished off nine kills with just one error over 14 attacks. Senior middle Megan Murray posted 10 kills and hit .474 to join Cindric in double digits. The trio worked off the dual set of senior Elyse Lorenz (23 assists) and sophomore Brianna Trabucco (10).

Defensively, senior libero Alyssa Pickert led Merrimack with 16 digs, while Cindric was the only other player in double figures. Reilly recorded two blocks in the match (one solo).

The Ravens return to the court on Friday, Nov. 5, when they remain home to host Adelphi in a Northeast-10 Conference contest. The match is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Fieldhouse.
